Aix is full of treasures but this is a lesser known one. One of the city's private mansions has been converted to an art gallery and restaurant. Fronted by a large, leafy courtyard, the Gallifet is a charming oasis close to the town's busy thoroughfares. Come here and wander through the art gallery, talk to the charming multilingual owner, sip a coffee under the shade of the chestnut trees. Or have a great lunch from the short but delicious menu. The cooking is honest and based on quality, at a price lower than in mainstream establishments, none of which can match this place's unique charm. On Thursdays in summer there are jazz dinners. Well worth a try.
