I took the little train ride for 8 euros around Aid and it was very enjoyable. One of the fountains you see along Cours Mirabeau is this mossy rock. Apparently it steams in winter. Very unique and one fork the geologists to explain.

This is one of 4 fountains on Cours Mirabeau and being mossy is different from the many others (12 main ones I believe) that can be found in Aix.

Warm water flows from underground at 18 degrees, otherwise just another fountain. Nice to sit and watch though while sipping a coffee at one of the many cafes on the Cours Mirabeau

As fountains go, the water feature itself is pretty unremarkable, being just a few inches squirting out the top like you might get in your garden fish pond. But is of course unusual in other ways being a large, moss covered boulder rather than your more conventional ornamental structure.

From that point of view, it is perhaps interesting, but unless you’re on a mission to tick off all the fountains in Aix, I can see little reason to go out of your way to visit this one.

This fountain is called "la fontaine moussue" (the mossy fountain). It is an interesting thing to see in the summer but it is even better in the winter, when the thermal waters of Aix en Provence turn it into a misty and mossy fountain. The water is warm all year round in that particular fountain.
