“what a pity”
Reviewed 26 August 2011

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights of our week's holiday to France, We had a lovely warm welcome and first impression was quite good. Restaurant looked inviting and a nice conservatory which had the bar area. However as we went up the stairs the whole feel of the hotel changed. Stair carpet needed replacing badly. When we opened the door to our room we were so dissapointed. We were late booking the hotel so accepted we had the smallest room. However we did not expect the carpet to be so dirty.I had to make sure my flip flops were by my bedside to put them on as I was getting out of bed. The bedroom and shower room needed a complete make over. The bed was clean but a quilt would have been better than sheet and blankets. The day cover on the bed although clean looked grubby. The hotel is in prime position for the harbour and beach, but if I was to return to La Rochelle I would prefer to be further away and have a better hotel. Another shock we had was that only bread, jam and coffee were included in the price we were quoted. We were asked at breakfast if we wanted juice and were shocked to find it was charged to our account as extra cost. We sat outside for a while one afternoon and again no attempt had been made to keep the place clean. We put our drinks down next to bird droppings on the table. What a pity for this pretty hotel in a good position.

Room Tip: make sure you do not have room 3.

Stylish building, with little parking but a good breakfast and pretty lobby. Nice high ceilings and a good location. They bring lovely pitchers of tea and coffee and lots of pastries to your table in the morning.

Very warm welcome from staff and family members of this traditional style seaside hotel.
This is part 19th / 20th c. building but has good room facilities with air-con to some rooms. It has a very good restaurant and private parking is available. Free wifi in most parts of hotel. Situated close to town centre and beaches with parkland walks adjacent.
This hotel is an oasis of calm in a very vibrant and exciting area. The staff are very pleasant . Rooms are spread over two floors and there is no lift.

Located almost in the center.
It is possible to park in the backyard, for a fee. There is Wi-fi at the hotel, and the operation is entirely top. The owner speaks fluent English and are very behjælpsom to guide to various server ties in the city. And there is some brochure about tourist attractions in the area.
The rooms are nice style and is clean and pretty. And beds are perfect even for big people. The hotel is very velegent if we want peace and aspire to quality food and breakfast is in the better half of the scale, from most places in the country.
Can clearly be recommended.

Arriving quite late into La Rochelle with no pre-booked accommodation, we happened upon Hotel Trianon set just off the historic harbour frontage and close to the centre of this amazing city.
Our elementary French was greeted patiently and warmly by the proprietor who helped us by speaking impeccable English and making every effort to welcoming us and assisting with simple check-in, parking on-site and information about the vicinity.
The hotel has clearly seen better days and would benefit from a little investment in decor, but for all its faded glory, the hotel is spacious, clean and inviting.
Breakfast - nice and simple consisting bread, croissant, conserves and copious coffee - was somewhat thrown in our general direction by a less than warm waitress who showed what appeared to be deep disdain for either her job or her customers, but we didn't take it personally and ultimately saw humour in the even-handedness of her grumpiness!
