This was our favourite spot during an eight day visit to Saumur. The food and service were wonderful .. love those plat du jour.the staff are fantastic and warm always greeting you with a broad smile and remembering preferences. We loved sitting overlooking the square and watching the world go by. Great wine, great food and great ambiance. go for that Michelin star.

My husband and I had a really super evening at Bistrot Les Tontons, and we were warmly welcomed by Gérald and his staff.
We were offered some great advice about wine, and we sampled a few varieties, all of which were a joy to drink and complemented the food. We shared a platter, which I believe is one of their signature dishes designed to be enjoyed alongside the wine. The flavours were delightful, and a truly great selection. My favourite being the duck, served on a small bed of salad, and when I asked Gérald how it was cooked, he told me with a grin, that it was a secret! Fair enough, we will just have to go back again to eat more!
Lovely atmosphere, good background music, well worth a visit! Top marks from us!

We ate one night at this restaurant and expected more having read the reviews on TripAdvisor beforehand. We were somewhat disappointed. The restaurant was busy that night and, as there was only one person waiting at tables, service was slow. Only two main courses were on offer. A disappointing meal.

Dear Madame

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience of Bistrot Les Tontons. I hope to have assessed correctly your disappointment stemmed from, as you comment, “service was slow” rather than the cuisine served, as your header does state, “nice enough but restricted menu.”

We are a bistrot and wine bar and our services would vary to those of a restaurant and brasserie as with us, one can choose to enjoy a coffee, a wine, a quick bite, lunch or dine throughout the day.

Served on a daily basis at Bistrot Les Tontons is; plat du jour, 2 x grillades, a selection of salades, assiettes of cheese and charcuterie as well as our signature ‘planches’, 3 varieties to choose from and puddings to follow.

All our produce is delivered daily and each dish is prepared upon request, we acknowledge this may incur a waiting time but trust our clients feel secure in the knowledge our cuisine is of the freshest and highest quality.

Once again, thank you for your review.

Cordialement

My husband and I, together with our daughter and her boyfriend all dined at Bistrot Les Tontons on our recent visit to Saumur......We had pre-booked our table, upon arrival we were greeted by Maria, the lovely, pleasant waitress and also the owner Gerald who speaks perfect English (his wife is English). The menu is relatively small, the choice not great but please do not be put off by this as what ever you order from the menu you can rest assured it is all completely fresh and of the highest quality, cooked by the wonderful chef David. We all ordered the Entrecote Steak with a Foie Gras and mushroom sauce served with a side salad and the best home made chips I have ever tasted!. The meal was outstanding, every mouthful was a delight. Gerald's wine recommendation was spot on. Our sweet was equally delicious, "Pain Perdu" is a must if you like bread and butter pudding. Through out the evening the hospitality, from Maria and Gerald was the best we had experienced. We would like to "Thank You" Gerald, Maria and David for making our evening with you one to remember....Outstanding, Exceptional....MAGNIFICENT!!

We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Bistrot Les Tontons and would go again like a shot. We were very well looked after, with excellent advice from Gerald on matching wine and food - he seemed incredibly able to give everyone his full attention. Our steaks were fabulous - exactly as we wanted them - and the homemade chips were the best ever. We followed our guide and had 'Pain perdu' for pudding - unbelieveably good, a local speciality and you have to try it. The food, the wine, the friendly staff and the great location made it a memorable evening and we look forward to our next visit.
