A former church, restored from a ruin now with a glass roof which bathes the amazing originals and casts in natural day light. From the classical statues and busts to the cast of the frieze from above Paris’s Pantheon; the display is extraordinary for such a small place.

The sculptures are impressive but so it the building they are housed in, the presentation is excellent, with concept sketches and slip castings, stone and bronzes so you follow the whole process.

TIP: 4 Euros or for just Euro 15 you can buy a ticket that gives you access to 5 of the museums in Angers. Well worth it.

This is one of those Art Galleries not to be missed. Easily overlooked but it's dedicated to a great sculptor of many works that we are familiar with not only in Europe but worldwide during a great period of history.

The museum was full of the works of just one sculptor, David of Angers, and his work was amazing. From huge statues to busts, medallions and drawings it was all wonderful, and in such a lovely setting of an old church with its roof replaced with glass. You can find busts or medallions of lots of famous people, we’ll worth a visit.

This exhibition given its entry via the Beaux Artes museum (or the street) should be included as a joint entry or at a reduced rate if you have been to one or the other. If you do enough travelling in Europe you will see many sites displaying ancient architectural features like the ones in plain view when you walk in. Given that it cost you €10 combined for the both museums virtually on top of each other I’m not sure of the value for money. No doubt there is significant history here but it’s not an island in the moat as it were.

We are so disappointed that you did not entirerly appreciated the museums... Too bad that you didn't take the combined ticket : 15€ for the 5 museums and the castle (that's a good deal!)

The restoration of the old abbey was the reason why I was interested in coming here. I think it's a good example how to renovate ruins and not making "fake" : you can immediately see, what's new and what's old, but it's still in harmony. In addition the new way to use the old abbey as an art gallery was so natural and easy. The building and the sculptures emphasised each others, and formed harmonous and rich set.

I didn't know the artist before coming here, but I found his works really interesting, beautiful and lively, he really could bring out persons' natures. I loved especially the sculpture of the young girl and the scethes. The atmosphere was enjoyable and peaceful, and there was even paper and pens to draw. What a lovely idea - of course I drawled, it was great place to do so, I enjoyed a lot.

In addition staff was nice and friendly. And that all was free to us, like every eu-citizen under 26. Highly recommended!

The gallery is not a big one, but it is packed with so many sculptures and drawings that you are overwhelmed. They are all models of sculptures having been made for being placed elsewhere, and there are good explanations when they were made and where the original sculpture is situated. Being so close to these masterpieces was a great pleasure. On the upper floor you are invited to make your own drawings of the exhibited pieces of art, and paper, pencil or charcoal are made available. To be recommended.

I'd never heard of David dAngers so to visit the exhibition was a revelation; the man was prolific, extremely talented and the setting for the work on display here is just superb.

In the centre of Angers is this gallery in an old abbey showing some of the casts David d'Angers made for his large commissions. They are amazing. You can also see some of his medallions and drawings.
