Just found this gallery while wondering through town and what a hidden gem. The sculptures here were fascinating with a wide variety of subject. Interesting way to spend the afternoon.

David D'Angers was not a sculptor that I had heard of prior to visiting Angers, but having gone round this gallery - and also had a chance to view his work elsewhere- I came to appreciate his talent. He completed numerous works for the Pantheon in Paris, but my favourite works in this gallery were his medals of then famous and important personages. The busts on the upper level are also worth viewing - I particularly liked the giant bust of Goethe.

Amazing waht they have done with this old church, the mod run roofing is fantasic and allows the light in the see the wonderful statues. It is not a massive collection which is nice as you don't have time to get bored, but a lot of them are massive which is fantastic. Do not miss this exhibition of David 's work!buy joint ticket with musee de beaux arts!!highly recommended

This is a remarkable museum. A medieval church has been repurposed as the perfect place for artist David d'Angers's monumental sculpture. The glass roof lets in gorgeous light that shows off the sculpture to great advantage. A great showcase for dazzling art as well as a unique look at a medieval religious building.
