the staff are unhelpful and not very accomodating of the needs of a large group needing to get rooms on arrival.
the corridors have bizarre stains on the carpet and the majority of the rooms smell. they smell of damp and sewage. the carpet in my room was sticky and sodden because the shower tray leaked and had clearly been doing so long enough to have seeped under the door and into the carpet.
no evidence of any cleaning
mouse traps near the breakfast room
but good location for walking into lille

The location of this hotel (if you can call it that - more like a youth hostel than a hotel in our opinion) is quite good, just a 15 minute walk from the Eurostar station and very close to the old town with some good restaurants very close by.
The welcome was friendly and efficient but the rooms are soulless, with no cupboards, wardrobes just one chair and a tiny half table. Only 1 towel per person is provided and there is nothing to put on the floor in the bathroom so after showering the bathroom floor is swimming in water. The room was clean enough and the bed was OK as long as you like it really firm.
The breakfast which we had at 5 euros a person is very poor - the coffee and yoghurt is fine, the fruit juice was Ok'ish but the rest is not very good at all. My idea of fruit in the morning is not a small packaged carton of pureed apple which was more like baby food. Some of the bread was stale (not all of it) and the baskets of bread were not replenished very well which left poor choice.
We paid an average of 52.5 euros a night for the room i.e approx £45 (excluding breakfast) having booked on the internet in advance. Really poor value for money in our opinion.
Some advice re Lille for really cheap travel buy a one day ticket called Pass Journee which costs just 3.6 euros and gives you one days unlimited travel on the Metro, the 2 tram lines and all the busses in a very wide area around Lille.

If you want to go up the 105 metre high bell tower at the Hotel de Ville you need to go to the Tourist Office first and buy tickets as there are just 2 guided tours a day.

Whatever you do make sure you keep a good map on you as I found Lille rather easy to get lost in due to the maze of squares and streets.

There were quite a lot of beggars on the streets and we did notice a couple of 'ladies of the night' quite near the Hotel.

I would say Lille is only worth a 2 night stay at most but do find a nicer hotel to stay in!
I would not dream of returning to this hotel and wouldn't recommend it to anyone

Just returned from spending 4 nights. Was a little apprehensive after reading some reviews. However, have no complaints. In fact, was pleasantly surprised. The receptionist was very pleasant, the room was clean and smelled nice, the bathroom was spotless. Everything was in good order and well-maintained. Etap is a budget chain but I have stayed in worse Travelodges. For €46/night one shouldn' t expect 5* accommodation. The basics are provided, no frills, though small bars of soap were in the bathroom. Everything worked - tv, light bulbs, shower, loo, clean shower curtain, hooks on back of door, etc. Lots of loo paper! Cleaning was excellent and clean towels provided every day. Room and bathroom not very big but perfectly adequate. Only real negative is that there is no air conditioning, so that in summer the rooms would be extremely hot but fine for April! A 10 minute walk from Gare Euralille through a park (perhaps not recommended after dark but fine during the day) or a further 5 minutes going the road route. Hotel is just around the corner from Rue du Gand with a good selection of restaurants, and a further 10 minutes walk to the centre of Lille. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on that aspect. As for the ladies touting for business, we were certainly not aware of them at all and there was nothing to indicate that the area was prone to such activities. Walking around the area we certainly had no cause to feel unsafe, even walking back late at night.

Etap hotels are great for a cheap weekend away or an overnight stop, especially with close friends as the bunk beds are always fun. The room is extremely basic but all you really need. At 46€ per night, you can hardly go wrong.

This Etap was not very impressive. It felt old and tired and more like an old Holiday Inn converted into an Etap rather than a purpose built property. We checked-in late at about 2300 and we were accidentally given a room with only one bed. We then went back down to reception to have this corrected. This is fortunate because the toilet just stank and it filled the room with toilet odour. The next room didn’t smell like toilet but smelt like cigarettes despite being a non smoking room.

The beds were comfortable and the room was clean but the washroom was a bit manky. The shower also felt a bit grungy and was too small so the curtain often got stuck to your back.

The location was not as central as I had imagined. It is only a 10 minute walk into town, so not too bad. It is in a semi residential area but prowled with prostitutes at night. Parking is €5 per day which was reasonable and is beneath the hotel. We didn’t have breakfast but it looked quite standard.

I am still quite open to Etaps but would give this one a miss.

some how i ended up in lille on a business trip. after spending about 5 nights at another hotel around the sub-urbs of lille that left a bad taste on my mouth, i finally had a breath of fresh air when i relocated to this hotel to spend my last night before taking the train off to germany.

This hotel is well located close to the lille trainstation within walking distance. The reception was very brilliant, the rooms are clean and equiped with wi-fi internet connection, well secured and the breakfast is complete and well presented.

It is relatively quiet there and I felt at home in this place. The price is very considerate. give them a try and see.
