My wife and I are very experienced travelers. We stayed at Le Patio 34 because it was available and the reviews were good.
First the good. The room was very large, with space to sleep 5 people. The bathroom appeared to have been redone. There was a safe deposit box in the room. There was free Internet. Helène was especially friendly and helpful. There was a very nice man (who may have been the owner, Stephane). There was no problem parking. The exterior, especially the pool area, was very nice.
The bad. The room was tired and dated. The tiles in the kitchen were worn and the grout was dirty. There was an unpleasant smell when entering the room. The sliding door to the outside did not lock, so it was jury-rigged with a pin to prevent it from opening -- not very secure and a concern for us. The curtains were too small for the sliding doors, so it was impossible to get complete privacy from the outside. We could only get complete privacy by entering the bedroom and closing a second set of curtains. The sliding door to the bedroom did not lock. There was no toilet paper, shampoo, bar of soap (only liquid soap), tissues, or hair blower. (Helène did finally get us a bar of soap.) We requested toilet paper and got that, but only one roll at a time. They forgot to refill the toilet paper one day. The bushes to the front door were overgrown, so the door was half-covered. There were two overhead lights in the bathroom, but no front light, so shaving or putting on makeup was difficult because your face was in the dark. The air conditioner was only in the kitchen area, so the cold air had to make its way into the bedroom area. Old food from a previous guest was left in the refrigerator. I always assumed breakfast was included at a B&B, but we were charged an additional 8 euros each for breakfast. And lastly, two GPS devices had a very difficult time locating Le Patio 34. One of them completely failed and the second got us close, but we needed help from a civilian.
I was reluctant to write anything negative because the staff was so nice, but everyone deserves to accurately know what they’re getting themselves into. The owner needs to bite the bullet and properly repair or replace old or worn out doors, furniture, curtains, etc. If the improvements were done properly, it could be a very nice place.
