I threshing to visit this secluded cemetery, just off the main road down I to the heart of pretty Collioure. Many other huge mausoleums to view if you have the time

In the small town cemetery of Collioure there is one tomb which always has a lot of flowers and decoration - that of Antonio Machado. This great poet lived in exile in Collioure during the Civil War and died here. Visiting his tomb is a pilgrimage for lots of Spanish visitors.

It is a quick visit, but still the most fascinating one in the beautiful village of Collioure. It's very interesting to know about Machado's life, and what he still stands for, and of course reading his poems. Going to that old graveyard is one of those things that make you feel small and insignificant, and that make you feel utmost respect for such a man.

I knew nothing of this Poet, but obviously I am one of the few. The grave is beautiful because what visitors have added to the tomb. Peaceful and beautiful. There is also a touching square of Military graves for those form the area who have lost their lives in the service of the Republic.

Antonio Machado is a favorite poet of mine so to visit his memorial was a great way to say thank you for his art. It was gratifying to run into a school group visiting the site. The walk was nice and the visit is short but visiting these many historical venues draw you into the allure of the area.
