“Perfect Ile Saint Louis Experience”

When I was extensively researching where to stay for our family trip to Europe, I relied heavily on guest reviews, so I am very happy to write this one and hopefully help out other travelers! My husband and I spent a little time on ISL when we were in Paris years ago for our honeymoon, and I was determined that's where we would stay on this return trip with our two kids (15 and11). As we were starting our trip in Paris, it was important to me that we had a clean, comfortable place to stay on the Ile--not just charm but comfort. The photos of this apartment looked great, but I could not find a lot of info about HFR, and I was nervous when I booked it; the price seemed very reasonable and a pick-up from the train station was included. Too good to be true? No, this flat exceeded all of our expectations: it was clean, beautiful, modern, and homey without feeling as though we were in someone's home (I'm super picky). The light is beautiful, with a courtyard in the back making the flat feel very peaceful. The bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable and the sofa bed was fine for our kids. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. Again, it was so clean--the dishes did not feel worn out and overused (did I mention I'm picky?). The flat is on what Americans call the 1st floor, so even though we had a few hot Paris days, it was not hot when we returned from a day out. The living room is spacious for hanging out, and we loved looking down on the street below. The Ile is a great location in Paris not just because it is generally quiet and charming, but because you can easily get everywhere else. We walked to the Marais and St. Germaine, and of course Notre Dame is just over the bridge. Water and metro transportation are also close by. We stayed in four other apartments on our trip and this was our favorite (well, tied with Venice). It's a real gem and a great value. Enjoy!

“Elegant, comfortable apartment in an ideal Paris location”

Three members of our family stayed in the beautiful apartment on the main street of the Ile St. Louis for four days in June and found it everything we could desire for an early summer stay. It is very convenient to a number of food shops and small restaurants with welcoming owners most of whom speak English if that is important to you. It is remarkably quiet given that rue St. Louis-en-l'ile is the main commercial street of the island which is a scenic, very clean and safe area of Paris right in the middle of the city near most sites of interest for touring but with the feel of a nice residential area in a small village. It is easy to walk to the Pont St. Marie metro stop or, we found it simple to hail a taxi near any of the bridges linking the island to both banks of the Seine and to the Ile de la Cité where Notre Dame is located, always a good spot to find a taxi.

The apartment itself is nicely decorated in a low-key way with comfortable seating and beds, good lighting and storage and it included many thoughtful amenities for a short stay. Our only suggestion here is that your might want to be sure oft he details of some appliances when you are met at the apartment since the book of information is not extensive on some items. You also should be aware that in the hottest part of summer, you might want to request a fan or portable A/C as the apartment, like most in Paris, does not have built-in air conditioning.

Entry to the building , which is gated and double doored, requires a code or key access; there is an attractive foyer and a small elevator beyond the security doors. The apartment also is easy to reach using the stairs as it is just on the first floor up from the foyer. Neighbors were friendly and helpful and the rooms in the apartment looked out either on the street in the public areas or into a garden courtyard for the bedroom. The library-TV room has a comfortable pullout couch to accomodate 2 extra people. The bedroom with queen-sized bed is blissfully quiet and has a garden view as does the kitchen, small but well equiped with a full size refrigerator, dishwasher, cooktop and oven and plenty of cookware and dishes. There is a combination washer/dryer in the bathroom. The bath has a large tub and glass shower door; there is good water pressure and adequate hot water for long showers. The mirror is large and well lighted and the space beside the sink is of a good size since the washer/dryer is located under the counter top. The w/c is in a separate room down the hall so as to be convenient to the public areas of the apartment and the bedroom. The main room has beautiful light from the street side with large windows overlooking a small balcony which is more decorative than useful for going outside; there is a small eating area near the windows, a desk, a pair of comfortable couches, a telephone for local calls and wifi to connect a smart phone or tablet up and, through a pocket door, a well-stocked library with a good size TV, a comfortable couch and two more of the wonderful floor to ceiling windows. The hall is large enough to accomodate another set of bookshelves and cabinet with mirror to provide a pleasant foyer at the front door; all the rooms are of larger than average size for a Paris apartment.

Best of all, as others have pointed out, is the wonderful service provided by HFR staff (Bernard, Paula and currently an American graduate student) and the prompt and courteous drivers who met us at Orly airport and returned us there at the end of our stay. The staff promptly and helpfully replied to all emails and calls. We were greeted promptly at the airport and at the apartment where the major features were explained and we had no trouble contacting either Bernard or Paula with any questions we had afterward. There were many extra touches like the welcome gifts of a Paris map, local information and enough food and drink to refresh us before we popped over to the little grocery half a block away (be advised that it is closed on Tuesdays for some reason although there is another option two blocks farther on the Rue des Deux Ponts plus many specialty food shops along the main street.)

We have visited Paris many times over more than 30 years, but this is our first time trying an apartment stay rather than a hotel. What a pleasant difference and how memorable this apartment and HFR made it for us. We look forward to returning!

Liked best: Location and comfort level of the apartment. Responsiveness of the agent.
Liked least: No complaints although I would wonder if in the heat of August it might not need at least fans, preferably A/C
