Owner description: Located on a land-filled swamp, this revitalized neighborhood, once a center of high culture, fell into disrepair following the French Revolution, but has regained prominence.

If you spend enough time in Paris to explore beyond the major tourist attractions, take a stroll along the streets of Le Marais. We walked along the river from The Louvre. We found charming restaurants with outdoor seatings, pastry shops with inviting dessert displays, colorful flower shops, beautiful architecture like the Hotel de ville. We had late lunch at Au Bourguignon du Marais and sampled pastries from across the street at Au Petit Versailles du Marais. We bought fallafel take out for later. We were full but could not resist the ad of the best in the world. We found our way to Place des Vosges-which reminded me of London’s Berkeley Square and Grosvenor Square. Understatedly regal. Another stroll in Paris that should be a must for anyone who wants to explore a little bit more of the charming city. We took the metro at Place de Bastille.

There is something for everyone in Marais. There is high end shopping, hole-in-the-wall take away eateries, museums, court yard gardens, art galleries, and lots of history. It appeared that everything was being renewed block by block. The historical buildings were being turned into libraries and museums. New shops were being added as older buildings were being restored and rehabbed. It was a great place to walk, and a great place to walk through on the way to the Seine River attractions.

I really Like Le Marais. Not Because any specific atractions. Just Because of streets and parks, small shops and locals.

Street upon street of smaller boutiques, great perfumiers, independent retailers. Everything from craft pens and paper to fabulous jewellery stores, art and furniture. Found a superb shoe store, great ink and calligraphy shop, fantastic perfume shop called Parle moi a parfum selling the finest fragrance I’ve ever smelt! Lots of great restaurants. Walk through all the smaller streets and have a stroll around place des Vosges to see the beautiful architecture and art.
Centres Pompidou is well worth the visit if you like modern art and the view from the 6th floor is exceptional.

We stayed in this neighbourhood on our trip and spent a lot of time wandering through the beautiful streets. It's clean and we always felt safe. So many restaurants, shops and photo ops.
