Owner description: Located on a land-filled swamp, this revitalized neighborhood, once a center of high culture, fell into disrepair following the French Revolution, but has regained prominence.

Love walking around the Marais, window shopping, eating a falafel, enjoying the people and city. There is a huge shopping mall that is fun too. In January, they had a huge sale!

Arrived via Saint Paul Metro Station Line 1. Allowed a whole afternoon to explore the shops. We found all the items on our shopping list: jewelry, scarves, handbags, perfume, soap, shoes, non-perishable French food and even a Christmas ornament in the off-season. The experience was ideal: unpretentious, smaller shops and independent designers (at least for the most part). Visited a few other shopping neighborhoods during our holiday and found this one to be our favorite.

Le Marais is a very eclectic and vibrant area of Paris. It is our favourite arridosoment in Paris. Full of unique shops, galleries, bars, small markets and eateries, there is always something going on. A fantastic area to use as a base for exploring Paris. Easy metro links and walking distance to a lot of the main attractions. Great accomodation options for all budgets.

The shops, the history, the squares make it the place to wander and eat. Visit the Place des Vogues and the Rue des Rosiers for the best falafel ever.

Truthfully, I enjoyed The Marais more twenty years ago. It has gotten so hip that it doesn’t feel as cozy as it did in the past. Although always famous for its restaurants, the prices have gone up with the neighborhood’s popularity. La Centre Pompidou is a big attraction for the modern art lovers, but ai think I will return to the Latin Quarter on my next visit. Although The Hotel Beaubourg, very close to The Pompidou is a delightful hotel and it could easily win my back.
