We had a great weekend in Paris partly thanks to Didier's accommodation. The suit was awesome and cozy, perfectly decorated taking care of each and every detail.
Another highlight is the breakfast Didier share with us an incredible and tasty "petit dejéneur" with fresh fruit, croissants and fresly brewed coffee, thank you very much for the experience!

This is the 3rd time I have stayed in Le 85.
Didier and Valerie are fantastic people, a shame Arianne Rose was away staying at her Grandparents.
I slept very well, they have lovely beds. No noise from the busy streets outside.

And of course the breakfast, very very good food and company.

Keep up the good work family Guy, I will return.

Room Tip: Both rooms are perfect.

Hello Aad
We're always happy to be together. As you say, already three times. I promise you that next time Arianne-Rose will be with us. But make sure you do not come during school holidays, or we come to your beautiful country to see the tulips and you.

Une belle amitié
Didier

Having stayed at Le85 for a week in 2012, we had no hesitation in booking there again.

We already knew that Chambre Eugenie was perfect for us as it is very spacious (30 sq. m.) and we feel it is in reality larger than it appears on the website. It has huge windows draped sumptuously to suit the room, ample storage space, a settee on which to read the newspaper or relax with a drink, and the desk and chair (positioned so well near the window behind the settee) on which to lay out maps and plan the day. There is an excellent shower and handbasin in the room and a separate WC shared with the second room. An additional benefit is that guests are able to use the kitchen to prepare a light meal, have access to the fridge and wine glasses, etc. or to work at the table outside of the breakfast hour.

Not only that, we looked forward to seeing Didier and Valérie again and to meeting their little Arianne-Rose. First, and most importantly for us, Didier is a wonderful host. He makes you feel comfortable from the first instant and does his best to help you enjoy your visit. If he finds out that you are interested in something, he will suggest an outing pertaining to that interest. As well, he enjoys talking with his guests and you can therefore learn about your hosts, the history of the B&B and interesting points about life in Paris today.

Breakfast is served around a table in an area adjoining the small kitchen. Didier greets his guests with gusto and serves a lovely breakfast which includes freshly-squeezed orange juice, a fruit serving such as melon or pineapple or mango, and a large bowl of fresh fruit on the table. As well, there are fresh croissants, cereals, bread, yogurt, ham and/or cheese and hot drinks. He is also amenable to his guests’ preferences.

Le85 is just a block from a lovely square (facing onto the gardens and Church of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul), where you can find a good grocery, a couple of bistros, etc. There is a very good pâtisserie just across the street, a wine shop down the block and a covered market a few blocks away.

It is an excellent location for transportation as there is a Metro stop, Poissonnière, only a block away, and both Gare de l'Est and Gare du Nord are within a few blocks' walking distance, providing access to the RER, Metro, and trains. As well, you are within walking distance of the Jardin Villemin, the Canal St. Martin and the historic l'Hôpital Saint-Louis. From the Poissonnière Metro stop, it’s a short trip to the wonderful Parc de la Villette with its Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, Musée de la Musique, and Philharmonie de Paris. Also not far is the lovely Parc des Buttes Chaumont.

Le85 is a B&B that you can easily settle into for a week or more, take time to explore some beautiful areas of Paris that are often overlooked, and get to know something about everyday life from your host and hostess. This is a wonderful place to stay if you want an authentic experience in visiting Paris: a neighbourhood, a family, a home away from home.

All in all, we highly recommend Le85 and would return once again in a heartbeat! Thank you, Didier and Valérie.

This last Tuesday, I met Jean Etienne for our general meeting. Our joint project evolves slowly, because we must recruit adhering. That will be done, because we wish to put forward the rooms of quality. In fact, we discussed with Jean Etienne your come to Paris. Both, we keep a true good pleasure have received to you in our house.

So that I had just seen me that I did not answer you for your splendid review. Which ego forgets. This so eulogistic text, deserves all my thanks.
All this information which is so important so that the hosts find their happinesses there. Thank you still Lynda, Dan. You are so attentive with the others.

First trip to Europe and Paris was the first country we visited. Lodging in Paris can be expensive and not a lot of hotels can accommodate 3 adult people in 1 room so we had to look for alternative accommodation. We found Le85 Paris here at Tripadvisor. Long review for those considering the place.

Reservation

Contacted the owner, Didier Guy, directly via email. Very responsive. He replies normally within 24 hrs. I paid 30% of the total room cost via Paypal. I have no personal Paypal account but once Didier sent in an invoice, I followed the link and paid via credit card. The rest I paid in cash when we got there.

Location

One train ride away from the airport using the RER Blue Line. Takes about 40 minutes, no need to transfer line/trains. Keep in mind that the RER Blue Line is a commuter train and therefore it might be difficult, but not impossible, if you have large luggages.

The BB is a 10-15 minute walk from the Gare Du Nord station/stop. Like most cities, there are some less than savory looking people hanging about the station. However, we never had any problem walking from the station to the BB even at midnight. You just have to be alert.

The BB itself is located at a quiet residential neighborhood. Church is nearby, lots of local cafe/small restaurants and a boulangerie around the corner. It is in central Paris but you still need to walk a bit or ride a train to get to most must-see sights. The Gare Du Nord (major station that will connect you to most of Paris), Gare De L'Est (train station for other nearby countries like Germany) and the Poissonniere Metro station are walking distance from the BB. Very very convenient for us.

Really, really loved the neighborhood. Quiet but central. Not a lot of tourist.

Direction given by Didier via email before we arrive is very specific. However, we got lost a bit because the name of the street is usually located at the sides of the corner buildings and may sometimes be hard to find. I would suggest saving a google map.

Accomodation/Room

Le85 is a beautifully renovated apartment. One part was closed off and used by the owner, Didier and his family. The remaining part consist of 2 rooms called Eugenie and Baudelaire, a shared toilet at the hallway and a kitchen/dining area.

The Eugenie (the red one in the website pictures) is the bigger of the two rooms. The Baudelaire is smaller but both have access to the balcony. The Eugenie can accommodate 3 but you would need to inform Didier beforehand. There is a big closet, hangers, safe, blow dryer, large towels, desk and sofa (in Eugenie room).

The beds looked and felt luxurious. The mattress were firm enough that you don't disturb the person beside you when you turn but soft enough that you feel you have a good rest. The pillows were plenty and of good quality. Most importantly the linens smelled and felt very clean. Small table with night lamps beside the bed. Plenty of books inside the room about Paris. No air con but we just open the balcony doors for some fresh air.

The shower area inside the rooms have their own wash basin and quality shampoo/gel no dental kit. The water pressure was strong from the rain type shower head. No shower door but it was designed to give some measure of privacy (important if you are not a couple).

You are given a key which you can lock up your room and a key to the front door and access the building. No curfew. You can come in as late as you want. No one comes in the room to clean it up which we didn't mind. It felt like our own private space during our stay and no one messed with our things.

The shared toilet is out on the hallway just in front of the 2 rooms. Not sure if this will be an issue to some but no problem with us since we were the only guests at that time. The flush was strong, plenty of 2-ply paper rolls. air freshener, small basin and window you can open a bit for extra ventilation.

The apartment is located on the second floor. There is a tiny elevator which can fit 1 person and 3 hand carry luggage. The stairs going to the 2nd floor is dark and the carpet badly needs a replacement but its a common area for the building so not sure if anything can be done about that.

Breakfast

One of the highlight of staying at this BB is that the owner, Didier, prepares a top notch breakfast. We didn't realize it until we went through other BBs in other countries during our trip. Normally, he prepares bread/croissant, cheese, yogurt, jam, ham, orange juice, coffee and fresh fruits. The croissant is really really good, the jam made by his mother-in-law is fantastic, orange juice is freshly squeezed, ham was yummy and the fresh fruits was mega appreciated. He even served us mangoes because we told him we were from the Philippines.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and it really was value for money.

Host

The best part is really the owner, Didier, who was extraordinary. This was our first trip in Europe, first time in Paris so it was a bit overwhelming. But Didier was very accommodating, funny, artistic (the map he drawn of the area around Sacre Coeur was amazing), and a really really nice guy.

Over breakfast, he would talk to us and share with us some stories about him, his family and Paris. He would give us suggestions and answer our questions about some of the places we planned to visit. We met his beautiful wife Valerie and his lovely adorable daughter Arianne Rose. Nothing was too much trouble. He allowed us to stay a bit later during check-out. He helped us with our luggage and accompanied us (even though it was raining) going to Gare D L'Est to take the train to Germany. He even made sure we were at the right train/seat.

Recommendation

Don't hesitate to stay at this charming BB. You won't regret it. One of the best places we have stayed. Good location, beautiful room, top notch breakfast, value for money, excellent host. Le85 BB is one tough act to follow.

To Didier,

I'm not really a hugger but at the train platform I hugged you goodbye because words were inadequate to express how thankful my friends and I were to have met you and stayed at your charming home. I believe you have a good heart and that translates to your words and action. I hope that your family continues to be blessed. Maraming salamat from the girls from the Philippines.

Room Tip: Eugenie room is bigger and the best

Dear friends, I finally take the time to answer you very late for your very nice testimony of your visit to Paris. We were traveling as a family beside the sea. Ariane Rose started swimming lessons, and was able to meet her little cousins who are currently living in Dubaï. Then there was the preparation for the entrance to the great school because Ariane going on six years old. She is very proud to go to school major. Another huge thank you for all the goods you have bestowed on us. We loved having you and it plunged us into a great moment of happiness. We will keep forever this time very strong that we had with you and in the Philippines. Malaking kagalakan na ibahagi sa iyo ang aming kaligayahan.

Nos amitiès

Our 4 night stay in Baudelaire, the smaller of the two rooms in Didier and Valerie's home, was wonderful. I booked direct and the response was quick, deposit efficiently arranged via PayPal (balance in cash) and detailed directions given to find their apartment and access the building and lift. Didier was waiting for us and, after showing us our accommodation, had maps and advice for our initial sightseeing. The room is very well appointed with shower and basin, comfortable bed and little balcony. A shared toilet was opposite the room and while I initially thought the lack of private toilet would be an issue, it definitely wasn't. WiFi was secure and fast.
The plentiful breakfast is served in the adjacent kitchen/diner which is available for guest use. Didier is a first class host and breakfast is his speciality. He goes to enormous trouble to buy fresh breads and croissants each morning, squeezes fresh orange juice, makes wonderful coffee but also provides yogurts, cheese, ham, preserves - a really comprehensive Continental spread. Over breakfast there is an opportunity to converse with Didier and other guests, surely one of the reasons why people stay in B&Bs. While Didier was willing and happy to give transport advise and print out directions and maps he was not intrusive - we had researched our sightseeing but appreciated his tips. He is happy to recommend restaurants, make reservations and book taxis.
The location is very convenient - easy walk with luggage from Gare du Nord and less than 100 metres to Poissionierre metro station from where we had direct or connected access to the sights. We also walked a couple of blocks (with Didier's directions) to a bus route which gave us very quick access to Place de la Concorde. There are numerous cafes and restaurants close by and a small covered market one or two blocks away. It is also a pleasant walk past Gare de L'Est and through Jardin Villemin to Canal St Martin where we spent an interesting morning wandering the canal and surrounds.
Le 85 was one of the best B&Bs we have stayed in over many years of travel and great value for money.

Bonjour Elanora16

I do not remember if I told you I was a photographer for 35 years. I think it was necessary to develop a sense of communication and exchange, it is characteristic of a shooting. that's probably why I'm so talkative. It is not my fault ! So if you have appreciated my enthusiasm and the joy of seeing you, know that you can not make me happier.
Please come back I still have plenty of stories to tell.

Bien amicalement

Didier
