“Most memorable night of my trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2012 via mobile

After two weeks of staying in hostels, I met up with my boyfriend in Paris for a night at Hotel Crayon. The concierge/manager/owner was extremely welcoming when I arrived that day around 10:30 am, and was able to arrange it so that I could check in 3 hours earlier than normal. We booked a suite at around 220 euros - a fantastic deal considering it offered about 600 square feet of space. The bathroom was a dream - beautiful tub in the middle of the room. The design of the bedroom was so bright and open. And the bed was the most comfortable thing I have expienced in ages. The only things the room needed: bubble bath and bathrobes - then it would have been perfect! otherwise I already want to come back with my Mum in the next couple of years - I know she would love it!

Having stayed in several hotels in Paris, this one was in the best location. I would book a bigger room next time but the beds, shower and general ambience were good. The great location means that for Eurostar passengers, it is straight down Metro Line 4 from the Gare du Nord and then only a short walk from the Les Halles stop. There are other metro stations within a few minutes walk opening up other possibilities for travel.

Another great advantage is its proximity to the Louvre and the Seine. We even walked to the Musee D'Orsay and the great shops along the Rue St Honore. The hotel is also very close to the Palais Royal area which has an abundance of good, but not too pricy, restaurants, and interesting shops. We especially loved the vintage Haute Couture clothes shop in the Palais Royal. The area is very safe, not noisy and definitely one of the best places to stay because you have so much that is within walking distance.

A slight negative is the price of breakfast - 12 euros per person for a continental breakfast. If you must want a croissant and coffee, go else where. Otherwise, if you have everything on offer the price is fine. (The fruit salad was not fresh every day!).

Our room was on the top floor, but be warned, there are offices opposite! The great rain shower wakes you up. As we discovered, the smoke sensors are very sensitive. No.........we do not smoke! The mirror, and the best space, is near the door. So is the smoke detector. My daughter sprayed on deodorant before getting dressed and set off the smoke alarm. The hotel management were straight up the stairs and banging on the door to get us out! The ceilings are low on the 5th floor and, because the room is small, there is limited space for getting dressed. The smoke detector was just above her head. It worked very efficiently! We apologised to the hotel but it has happened before apparently. Tip - spray deodorant in the bathroom!

The staff here are great! Friendly, helpful and understanding. The hotel is colourful, nods to 50s design, and has a superb location. Heating and air conditioning were quiet and efficient. Everything in the bathroom worked extremely well and the modernisation has been done with wit and charm. I feel this hotel would suit younger customers due to its decor, but if you appreciate a certain style, location and helpfulness, this is a great place to stay. Next time I might book with them direct as I think their price is better than the Eurostar train and hotel combined price.

Room Tip: If you want a bigger room, make sure you book one. The standard ones are small.
