We chose the Grand Hotel Francais based upon the price and the reviews on TA. We werent disappointed at all. The hotel was very easy to find and between two Metro stations which made sight seeing really easy. We arrived by Eurostar at Gare du Nord and it was a 15 minute metro journey away with one change. The metro is great and very easy to use. Paris (in my opinion) is very spread out and the hotel is a little way away from the major sights so the Metro is a must, we did however walk to the Notre Dame area twice which was a pleasant walk through what felt like a more "local" paris.

As other people have mentioned, the rooms are quite small but furnished very well. We had a room on the front of the hotel 5 floors up and the double doors opening out onto the balcony was a great touch. We recieved free bottles of water/soft drinks and a complimentary small bottle of rose wine which was a nice touch. Good pwerful shower, wardrobe and safe, and the bed was very comfortable in my opinion.

We had breakfast included in the price of the hotel which was more than adequate. There were bread, pastires, boiled egg, yoghurts and jams, with good tea and coffee available. The staff were very friendly, and we couldnt really ask for any more, especially for the price - and this is what made the hotel so worthwhile compared to other highly expensive chain hotels. They offered advice on local restaurants and we visited Au Petit Panisse just a 5 to 10 minute walk away which was great. Very local and they had to help us translate the menu which they were more than happy to do. Good value at 30eu for 3 courses and beer.

Room tip: The rooms facing the front were great with large doors opening onto a balcony.

Very nice, clean rooms. The staff was really helpful. Ok location- on the metro but you have to transfer to get to any site seeing. No breakfast included either- 10 euros extra per person! Rather steep for hotel breakfast.

From May 2 to May 14, 2012 six members of our family stayed at the Grand Hotel Francais. Our choice of GHF was based on the wonderful reviews from previous guests that we read on Tripadvisor. As others have said, the rooms are somewhat small but adequate. The furnishings are modern and our bed was very comfortable. Everything in the hotel was always clean and orderly. Most importantly, the hotel staff was great. Monsieur Hocine, the owner, was frequently at the front desk, and he on several occasions went out of his way to accommodate our requests. We couldn't have been more pleased. Although the hotel is located away from most tourist attractions, there is a metro station just a short walk away. We used it extensively and traveled all over Paris on the metro. We did have some difficulty changing trains a couple of times, but there was always a friendly Parisian to help us out. We didn't try the hotel breakfast. We opted instead to have a small breakfast at one of the nearby cafes. Overall, the hotel is a first-rate combination of value and service.

Room tip: One member of our group had a room with only a shower. The bathroom was much smaller than our other rooms which had a tub and shower.

This was our first stop on a 3 country visit and was a fantastic start to our trip. Exhausted from a 10 hour flight, Ziad (I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong and I apologize) ushered us in and gave us waters and pastries while we waited a few minutes for our room to be ready. The rooms are small, but nicely furnished and clean. The water pressure in the shower is impressive considering it is an older building. My only complaint is that it the circulation in the restroom was not great, so it was a little humid after showers. The wifi was relatively quick. The breakfast was typical european continental, though I will say they had an excellent choice of cheeses. The lobby bar is small, but the staff was great about recommending other night life within walking distance. Our last night there, the manager arranged to have desserts brought in for us from a restaurant down the street. What a wonderful surprise after a long day! Because of it's location near the metro, you can't beat the value of this hotel.

To be fair, our son, who lives in London, gave us this room as a gift. He did his research and did it well. Having never been to Europe, and not knowing what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised to find that Grand Hotel Francais was just perfect. It's an almost clichéd Parisian hotel, and that is a GOOD thing.

The staff was extremely helpful, and the the room was always very clean. The bed was almost TOO comfortable, as we found ourselves sleeping through the alarm and the road construction being done right below our open windows. The balcony all the way around the entire room (300° panoramic view) was out of a movie.

Looking at a map, before the trip, I was concerned that the location might have been a bit out of the way. Mais, au contraire! It is right across / down the boulevard from the Rue des Boulets Metro stop, and a short metro ride to almost any location in Paris. There are great restaurants ($ to $$$), grocery stores, bars, creperies, patisseries, etc., within a short walk, in any direction.

And DO NOT miss the breakfast. We did...our 1st morning. But made it down on days 2 and 3. Worth getting up for.

We LOVED Paris, and our stay at stay at the Grand Hotel Francais made it that much more memorable. Merci!
