By far and away the best park in Paris during the hot summer months. A welcome refuge in an otherwise bustling city and a great place to spend an afternoon with friends

We came across this park by accident one very cold March day (see picture!), and were delighted with it. You could see it would be wonderful in the summer, but even in wintry conditions it was a joy to walk through, and quite a contrast with the rather shabby area around the canal. There was a good map at the entrance, and it has public toilets. Paris's answer to Central Park!

Tuileries Gardens, tick. Jardin de Luxembourg, tick. Champ de Mars, tick. So you’ve seen the usual Parisian oases - this is something quite different. Designed in a former quarry back in the 1860s, this park, well off the tourist path, is a wonderful mix of enormous caves, monolithic outcrops, precipitous cliffs and chasm bridges all wrapped up in the usual mix of walkways, pleasant parkland and locals out for a stroll. Your visit is topped off (pun intended) at a rotunda with views to the Sacre Coeur and beyond....If you’re looking for somewhere different for your daily stroll - this could be it!
