Owner description: The Arc de triomphe was begun in 1806, on the orders of Napoleon I to honour the victories of his Grande Armée. Inspired by the great arches of antiquity, the monument combines the commemorative with the symbolic and it has always played a major role in the national republican consciousness. Every evening, the flame is lit on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the Great War. An exhibition portrays the history and explains its symbolic importance, nationally as well as internationally. The terrace provides superb views both by day and night across the city and its great sweeping avenues.-Opening hours : April to September: from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; October to March: from 10 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.-Closed: 1st January, 1st May, 8th May (morning), 14th July (morning), 11th November (morning), 25th December-Entry fees: Adults = 9,5 €; Concessions = 6 €; Free admission: 18-25 years old* (citizens of one of the 27 countries of the EU or are non-European permanent residents of France) * excluding school groups

The Arc de Triomphe was a lovely monument and I'm glad that we went to see it, but it only took a short amount of time so it's easy to fit into your sightseeing schedule. Thankfully there are underground tunnels that get you to the monument because the car traffic around it is incredible! The detail on the monument is really amazing and it's a great place to take a moment and appreciate the talent of the people who created it. One of my favorite memories of this experience was the little cafe that was near the monument and having a couple of glasses of wine with lunch and appreciating where I was.

First views give way to an amasing structure in the middle of what I guess is a roundabout full of mad french drivers negotiating there way around it!
Once you walk through the underpass to the arc you completely forget about the traffic and have plenty of room to walk around the structure. The sculptures around the the arc and on the ceiling are amasing and are in so much detail. We did not walk to the top due to the small spiral stair case you have to walk up to the top and the weather was not that great so views limited.
Top tip - don't queue and pay if you just want to walk around the bottom, you can walk straight through.

Use the subway walkway to get to Arc de Triomphe, from here you can decide to queue for tickets to the top or to walk around under it. We decided to go up. There is quite a climb with around 400 narrow steps in a circular staircase. There are 2 resting areas if you are out of breath, if your lucky you will get a space here for a few minutes. When you reach the top there is items of interest and then a short climb to the outside balcony. The views are amazing, you can see all over Paris. You can spend as much time as you want viewing. Definately worth the climb.

The line for the Arc de Triomphe is pretty fast moving and really cheap especially if you have a viste pass for the metro you get a 20% discount. The views are great, the climb is rewarding! Def my favourite thing in Paris.

While the Arc is beautiful to walk up to and watch it get bigger as you get closer, the true selling point is the view from above. Beautiful scenes down every avenue and the climb up is not bad. Don't forget to visit the Tomb of the Unknown soldier at base of Arc. All ages should be able to make the climb to the top.
