Owner description: This beautiful museum, once a railroad station, now houses a staggering collection of Impressionist art, as well as other items created between 1848 and 1914. In 2011, the museum is running a renovation of the top floor (impressionist gallery). Only ground and medium floor are accessible. The top floor will re-open on the 20th of October. Meanwhile, some impressionist masterpieces are not visible.

“Fantastique”
Reviewed 30 April 2012

Its great to have visied the gallery, but so much to see - we couldn't do justice to it all in one day. So many famous impressionists all together in such numbers, just too much. Had we the time we would have preferred to do it in smaller visits, just focusing on one ot teo of the great and famous. But thats not practical for the occasional overseas visiter.

A must for any visiter though.

“Avoid the Musee d'Orsay on a day when the Louvre is closed”
Reviewed 29 April 2012

We made the mistake of visiting the Musee d'Orsay on a day that the Louvre was closed. The crowds at the museum made the museum too crowded to enjoy, particularly in the area where they had the Rembrandts and Monets.

A nice and less crowded museum than the Louver, smaller too, but we enjoyed it a lot more.

“Just the right size”

Spectacular building, perfect size collection for a visit. Rent the headsets as it gives good explanation on various pieces of art which really helps if you are not knowledgable in various painting techniques etc.

“Spectacular building with beautiful exhibits”
Reviewed 29 April 2012 via mobile

Get the Paris museum pass and completely skip the queue. Restaurant is beautiful but the food is pretty average, not worth the wait or price unless you're desperate. Coffee shop line ups are also staggering so make sure you're well fed and watered before arriving.

This is a really impressive museum, accessible, not overwhelming. Allow a half day unless you like to read each picture caption...don't miss the impressionist area, but aim to get there early...
