Delightful space in an old stone building that reminded us of old country France. We were so pleased with our meal and the wine the owner chose for us was especially good. The matriarch of the restaurant took care of us and, it turns out, she spent a couple of years at the French Consulate in San Francisco. She loves San Francisco as much as we love France. We went for the prix fixe menu and started the meal with the foie gras trio that was an add on but well worth it. We tried the guinea hen for the main course and is was especially delicious. I am glad the staff at the Hotel Le Haut des Lys recommended this spot because it was so good. It was very quiet and we ate at our own pace. Save room for dessert and some dessert wine! We love to support family run places and L'Etape Gourmande exceeded our expectations and we would love to go back when we visit this area again.

Rural French charm with madame watching over the restaurant and making sure everything was correct. We enjoyed our meal very much but we were not that convinced by the starter of the chef's special for the day. As value for money it just squeaks in: our bill reflected the menu gourmande which surprised us. However, no complaints.

We spent 6 days biking in the Loire Valley and this was a highlight. The food is fantastic. We had locally made beer and Cola (after a long bike ride) and both of us tried a different three course meals, Each course was great. I particularly liked the beans in the duck confit and my friend loved his kidney dish. But the best part was the owner Béatrice. She greeted us, helped get us a taxi back home (which was a trick) and helped us find a place to store our bikes. She could not have been kinder.

We stayed in the loire valley for a few days and the owner of the chateau where we stayed suggested dinner there. It was indeed a great experinece. The restaurant is small, a bit off from the main roads. The food and atmosphere were great. It was worth the 15 minutes trip.

We ate here twice last year and were pleased to find it unchanged on our return. We ate here the four nights of our stay (at the excellent Le Hauts de Lys nearby) and had delicious meals, something different each night.Good cooking. The staff were all delightful, charming young ladies and helpful.Madame Beatrice speaks perfect English and is most welcoming. We will go back next year. There is a pleasant large courtyard garden for al fresco dining but we were here a bit later than last year and it wasn't warm enough to sit outside but if you're there earlier in the year it's a lovely experience eating under the trees.
