This restaurant is not in the town of Azay-le-Rideau, so you definitely need a car to get there. About a 10 minute drive from Azay on some tiny little roads. Glad they had good signage.

The food was good but a bit simple. Decor was very casual as were the table settings. I guess we were a little surprised by all the rave reviews, that this ended up being a tiny little B & B restaurant.

The chef did a nice job but the choices were limited. The wine was OK at reasonable prices. Just was not what we ere expecting.

We arrived at the end of a much delayed journey and were too tired to drive into the local town for dinner. At short notice they found us a table. We are lovers of plain, simple french cooking so did not quite know what to expect with the meal. Even though we were extremely tired the whole experience was delightful. We started with aperitifs and really enjoyed the selection of amuse bouche which came with them. Each course was full of flavour supported by some lovely local wines. We were really pleased we have seen a few episodes of Masterchef as it helped us fully appreciate what had gone into the meal.
The meal was so enjoyable it is hard to find fault but perhaps two comments are worthwhile: the service was a little bit quick, we didn't really have much time between courses and the menu was a bit narrow. Nevertheless it was a magnificent meal and will be remembered for a long time. (Breakfast is pretty good too if you stay overnight!).

As you would expect from a former Logis hotel with a triple grading for the rooms and cuisine, the hotel not only met these standards, but also went way beyond. The hotel is situated in a rural setting ( about 10 mins from Azay ) which combined with a very informal atmosphere suited us just fine after a long hot drive from Calais. Chilling out with a glass of wine watching the donkeys is not offered by every hotel !
The rooms are modern, clean and functional and as above, the staff very informal, but nonetheless very helpful and attentive. But it was the cuisine that was so exceptional. Quite simply, if we had had the meal presented to us in a 2 Star Michelin restaurant, I would have been entirely satisfied. Taste and presentation were of the highest order and if gazpacho remains on the menu, you will not have seen or tasted anything quite like it. There were 6 of us and all chose differently, but would have been delighted with any of the courses offered. A good sign were all the diners who came who were not staying at the hotel !
If you want to be in Azay or smart / luxurious, then this is not for you. If you like a family run hotel with an informal atmosphere offering value punching well above it's weight, then this is the place. Bizarrely, the hotel features in the 2015 Logis catalogue but not the 2017.

We've just left here after our fourth visit (we always stay one night and eat, the rooms are fantastic too!) and the food has just better and better over the last four years. This visit we had red tuna salad and a gazpacho with goats cheese mousse, guinea fowl and cod, a selection of local cheeses and an apricot and frangipani desert and there's nothing to fault. Nicely presented, staff were excellent, attentive and smiley, the dining room is more modern than it used to be and it lends itself well to the innovative food coming from the kitchen. This is a must stop for us every year on our first night traveling through France on holiday, we urge anyone to try it, you won't be disappointed. And rather than have to travel 'home' afterwards just book one of the ground floor rooms with terrace then you can stagger 'home' when you're fully satisfied, which you will be! I have reviewed the rooms under hotel but suffice to say they are clean, well presented and value for money.

A wonderful find set in a peaceful spot just outside Azay le Rideau. Everything about this meal made it memorable. The warmth of the staff, the decoration of the dining room, the quality and presentation of the food and the excellent wines. A must for anyone interested in trying new flavour combinations. Not a big choice on the menu so perhaps not for the fussy eater.
