“Best wine tour I've visited on 4 continents”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2012 via mobile

I generally don't write reviews but this was such a wonderful wine-tasting experience I feel compelled to let others know too. I've been to some of the best vintners in California, South Africa, Argentina and Chile, as well as having sampled a lot in the past two years living in Paris, and this was the best wine-tasting by far. First off, there is no fee for tasting wines. They have you taste at least a dozen excellent wines and let you figure out what wines you like. Nicole is clearly passionate about their wines and takes plenty of time to explain each of them, the area that they come from and answers any and all questions you have.

Excellent customer service--in addition to offering a great tasting, Nicole and Pierre really went the extra mile--literally. Our GPS malfunctioned and had us fairly far away from their place. We were quite late and Walking on foot and Pierre drove to where we were and picked us up. Because of the time we spent being lost, we didn't think we could stay for the full tasting because we had dinner reservations that were cutting into the tasting. Nicole called the restaurant and had them push back the time. Then, she drove us to our car and said that she would pack up our wine order and bring it to the restaurant so we wouldn't be delayed. And she did. I can't wait to go back.

I recommend you get directions to their place when you reserve and plan to stay for at least two hours. Their petillant wine is superb and is the first sparkling wine my husband actually likes.

“One word - Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2012

Definitely, we can recommend visiting this place. We were pleasantly surprised. Nicole always smiling and perfectly describe the aromas of each wine. We spent a total of about 2.5-3 hours. Very interesting explanations about the Burgundy wines, tasted sixteen wines, white and red, the local sparkling wine, cremant (Sparkling) wine, cassis and kir royale. It highly recommended.

“A highlight of our wine class trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2012

Our wine class made a weekend trip to Burgundy, and Pierre and Nicole opened their shop especially for us on Sunday. We were treated to a round of blind tasting where we were encouraged to try and figure out what we liked in the wine (and how it tasted). This was a refreshing departure from judging a wine from it's location or price point, especially for inexperienced (but enthusiastic!) wine tasters like ourselves. It's clear that Pierre and Nicole have a great schtick, and they are very knowledgeable about Burgundy and beyond. For all you wine snobs--beware! Pierre will sniff you out right away! For anyone genuinely interested and excited about wine, consider skipping your last tour at a big place and consider dropping in or scheduling a visit to La Cave de L'Ange Gardien!

“What a Treat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012

We ended a tour of Burgundy wine country (led by Stephanie at Aux Quatre Saisons) with Pierre at this fabulous shop. His enthusiasm and passion for Burgundy wines was infectious. Pierre introduces you to vintages that you would not come across otherwise. At the end of our tasting, a dozen bottles in hand, he packed them up for us ready to fly home as checked baggage. We considered this the crowning touch to a day of learning.

“Serious Wine Tasting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2012

I had heard very good things about the Guardian Angel, and I decided to take some friends visiting from Paris to the cave. We were presented with at least 20 wines over 2 hours. The aim was to help my friends learn about Burgundy wine and explore their tastes; however, it was a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Nicole had her hands full with a mildly rowdy bachelor party, but she kept the tasting organized. While not all of the wines were drinking well--some were past their prime or corked--there were examples of very good appellations and also some older vintages (2000, 2002) on display. The fact that this experience is offered for free is amazing.
