“Grand Theatre”

Lovely lyric theatre with good opera and concerts etc but with uncomfortable seats with many in the boxes giving restricted views. Usherettes can be rude if not tipped for showing you to seats.

“Beautiful Building in Beautiful Bordeaux”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2011

Bordeaux, from what I know has a lot to be grateful to Alain Juppe for. He was and is mayor of the city, he made a huge difference to its look and character. This building is exquisite, for the eye and the soul. Loving restored, the interior is beautiful. The only lament I have is they faithfully reproduced the theatre seats. I find them HARD. They quality of the productions often, alas not very often, belie origins of the production. Have seen some great shows there and would certainly recommend a visit, if only to admire the interior.

Its placement in Bordeaux, right at rhe centre, offers the photographer excellent opportunies to create exceptional photos. The vistas, in all directions are quite something to be seen.

Enjoy

“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 December 2011

See if you can book on a Sunday Ballade - only 6 euros each and you get to sit in the theatre and enjoy music for an hour. Definitely a Bordeaux local attraction for all the family. Beautiful building. Pleasant and helpful staff. Cafe attached is a good place to have a drink or meal too.

“Absolutely Gorgeous!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 December 2011

Well this is for sure a place needed to be seen. If you have the chance to take in a show do it!! The building itself is lovely, and the inside is really something else- Very elegant classical building. The Theatre itself is ornate, adn very baroque in style, very comfortable feeling once seated. However if you are rather tall, I would choose your seating carefully. As the seats are not really built for long legged people, and if you are seeing a rather long production there may be a few aches and pains.
Worth a visit however just to walk around and see this wonderful building. There are guided tours of the building, which we didnt have the time to do but i imagine would be worth the effort.
And after all the sightseeing ,there is a lovely coffee shop next door, to take a refreshign drink or two. If you go on a Sunday afternoon you can enjoy the pianist who is there... really lovely atmostphere.. and recommended to go
