I stayed at the Great John St. Hotel with my wife for her birthday. The hotel looks very fancy, converted from an old school house, and this theme is played upon with books and old class photos displayed everywhere.
We stayed in a lovely clean room, with a mezzanine 'bedroom' area - complete with a large bath!
No complaints about the room, it was big, airy, light, the bathroom area with "his n hers" sinks and a big, powerful waterfall shower was great.
We had afternoon tea in the lounge which was delicious, and the hotel catered well for our vegetarian needs.
The only downsides to our stay were as follows:
- no access to the fabled rooftop area as there was a wedding on, we weren't informed when we booked, and would probably have chosen a different date.
- paper-thin walls meant that through the night you could hear every slammed door, every creak of wooden floors, every flick of light switches and other, more personal, noises coming from the other rooms around us.
Probably one of my worst night's sleep ever, and hence why this hotel, unfortunately, does not score higher.More
