This hotel was the pits. Thankfully we stayed just the one night. Me and my friend were down for a gig so the location was ideal and all we needed was somewhere to put our head down. However for £125 a night we expected a higher standard. We received a room with in windows and one of the smallest hotel rooms I've ever and most likely ever to stay in. The heat in the room was unbearable. We woke up at 6 am and had to is outside the main street to cool down. It was unbelievable how hot it was. Shower was covered in lime scale and no hot water.
Only plus point was the staff were very accommodating and helped as much as possible.

Won't return though.

Spent 3 days here (27-29 June 2012). Cheap and cheerful but punches above its weight in terms of customer service and location.

Nice reception/bar area and very helpful staff. Nothing seemed to be a problem for them. I had a room on the 4th floor (good lift) which was clean and well equipped. The furnishings, decor and bathroom are 2-3 star. That's not a criticism, they have made a lot of effort and for the price paid i can't complain.

A nice flat screen TV on the wall, Iron and board in the wardrobe, hairdryer, plenty of hangers, fresh towels and housekeeping every day. Room service available and decent restaurant on site.

I would recommend this hotel if you are on a budget, want a clean decent equipped room, friendly helpful staff and want to be central in the city centre, really is a great location.

Big thumbs up.

I stayed here with my partner on Friday 22nd June for one night. The reception/bar area is nicely presented, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We stayed in an interior room on the 3rd floor. Unfortunately the room did not have the same standard of cleanliness as the reception area. The bathroom had a very strong smell of urine.
There is no air con, which to be fair to the hotel it had not advertised, however the one desk fan that was provided did not work. We discovered this in the early hours of the morning when the room became unbearably hot, as it was such a late hour we did not contact the hotel staff to complain or request a replacement fan, hence to be fair to the hotel they had not been given a chance to put right the problem. However... given the room has no windows, no air con, it would have been wise for them to have checked the fan actually worked before letting the room out.
The bed was very small for a double, but whilst not the most comfy we have slept on it was neither the most uncomfortable, ok for a one night stay.
The breakfast was good, and service in the breakfast room was very good with once again helpful friendly staff.
Overall, this is a good hotel but could be greatly improved if the standard was followed through in the bedrooms and bathrooms.

Room Tip: Avoid the interiror rooms, that way if its smelly you can at least open a window.

I stayed here on a Sunday night with my partner for 1 night for a concert. I chose this hotel because it was cheap and in the city centre, and it is LITERALLY in the city centre. Perfect location if that is what you're looking for.

However, even though we had a room near the back of the hotel away from the traffic, it was still quite noisy. I think Monday morning must have been glass bottle recycling collection day... The building is also quite old and wonky, so the floors are really squeeky and you can hear people walking in the rooms above and in the hallway.

Otherwise, it was clean and comfortable, cheap and cheerful.

If it weren't for the noise I would stay here again. We usually stay in the city centre Travelodge when we come to Manchester, which is the same price and quieter, so we will likely stay there next time unless it is fully booked, then I would consider the Gardens Hotel again but bring earplugs next time!

I stayed here with my boyfriend (19 & 20) for a music concert/city break, and although the hotel looks nothing on the outside it was so clean and comfortable inside! The interior could do with an update but that didn't bother us as it was clean and the bed was comfy. There was a slight noise coming from outside as we were at the front of the hotel but it wasn't enough to stop you from sleeping. The hotel staff were great friendly and polite, our travel iron broke and I rang reception to see if we could hire one and the receptionists response was that there was an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe! So we were made up as not all hotels have this. Great stay cannot fault it, I shall be staying here again when returning to Manchester.
