This is a pub that I've been visiting for very many years, albeit infrequently as I rarely venture into Manchester nowadays. On arrival about 17:30 the door was locked but as we could see people inside, rang the bell. The door was answered and we were told 'Members only' allowed. Members only! this is a pub, not a club or some private members institution.

There were a number of people passing who had been to some football match, but none were attempting to enter the pub, but we could clearly see people inside with football scarves so the pub was not trying to stop football fans, and bearing in mind that I pointed out that were are not remotely interested in football, I'm not sure what this pub was trying to achieve, and the 'representative' was not willing to listen to any reason.

A very poor attitude.

a range of locally brewed beers, very well kept cellar, served by a friendly landlord whose family have run the pub over a number of years and still live over the shop.

within 5 min stroll from Manchester Piccadilly main station and tram stop .

ideal for pit stop when walking towards the ethiad man city football stadium also handy for canal walk.

mentioned in all camra and other beer guides.

This is a no-nonsense friendly, local pub, of a type which is becoming increasingly hard to find.

The beer is good and reasonably priced, and the landlord is very friendly and full of local knowledge.

This is a handy watering hole if you're moored on the canal.

Small local pub. Locals are very friendly. There seems to be ad hoc music sessions on in the evenings. Beer was lovely. Will go back next time I'm in Manchester
