Good staff good beer. Pleasant clientel Try proper faggots and peas. Really good and tasty. Or a variety if cobs or home made pie. Two meals am one and a half pints came in under £12. Best value any where. Not posh just plain honest good food company. And service

Drinks fine but pub is freezing no heating on and no fire. One of the coldest days of the year. Why is there no heating?

We used to be in the habit of calling in about once a week. The place was busy and friendly, the beer was excellent and the simple food offering was exceptional value for money.

At the time of the change in management and staff, last year, the pub was rated #1 in Dudley on this site. Today, it stands at #7 - and that tells its own story.

The beer is still excellent, but the food offering has gone down the pan. The range of cold food has shrunk effectively to ham or cheese rolls, with or without salad. What happened to the beef, corned beef, pork & stuffing, corned beef, blue cheese? The hot food is a dish of the day + faggots and some unbranded 'chip shop' style pies, that look very sorry for themselves in a heated cabinet in the room that used to house the splendid selection.

We called at lunchtime, mid-week in mid-January - and the place was half-empty (but it was mid-January). Some much-needed decorating was in progress and the place smelt of paint and looked shabby. The emptiness of the large back room echoed to the unending wails of several badly-behaved small children, and while the beer remains excellent the whole feel of the place has changed - and sadly, not for the better.

Bathams had a winning formula on their hands: why did they change it, and do they really think the changes have been for the better?

Having visited this pub for 20 years, the recent change of management hasn’t yet proved to be a good one.
The beer is still great, but the food offerings have change significantly. The new management state it’s not changed much, but that is a matter of opinion. The cobs are still ok, but the hot food is no where near the standard of before. Yes it’s still cheap, but the quality is definitely lacking. We recently had what we thought was going to be a pukka pie, but it wasn’t. Instead for a steak pie, we struggled to fine one single piece of meat in it and the chips were almost cold.
May return for the beer, but not for the food, unless we see evidence of the quality improving.

My pal and I made our annual pilgrimage to the Vine as we hold the 'Bull and Bladder' in the highest esteem. We were disappointed though when we visited on the 21st December that their Christmas Special Ale that we'd travelled nearly 40 miles to taste again had already sold out!
Couldn't believe it!
Posh, it ain't; but the Bathams beer's there are amazingly good and the food is not only wholesome, but there's plenty of it, and what is more it is fantastically cheap.
My pal had Faggots Chips and Mushy Peas for £3.00 and I had two huge Ham, Black Pudding and Salad Rolls for the incredible sum of £2.60 for the TWO.
