What a lovely place to stay. You are always wary wondering if the photos of the property are an accurate reflection. They were, the apartment is clean, the location is excellent being close to restaurants suiting all wallets. An ideal staging point for the lake district, Morecambe and the trough of Bowland. On arrival we were greeted with cheese, biscuits and wine, a lovely gesture. The owner is extremely helpful and knows the area well. His recommendations were spot on. Would we recommend to friends, definitely, would stay again yes.
This is such a lovely place to stay! Quirky and unique, the accommodation is set over two floors at the top of the building and is tastefully decorated in a nautical theme echoing the history of the building. We arrived cold and tired after a long journey to find the heating and lamps had been turned on to welcome us, and the cheese, wine, and biscuits left on the table for us was a lovely additional touch; - there was even a tin of dog food and bowl to welcome any canine visitors! (and a poo bag!) It was very clean and well-equipped, and the sitting room and bedrooms were very comfortable. The view over the river was a bonus. The location is really good, with a 5 minute walk into Lancaster and plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance. It was perfect for us, and we will definitely be visiting Dodshon Place again.

Steve the owner is a mine of local information and had some great tips on where to eat and how to travel further afield, don't be afraid to ask him.
Within easy reach of the coast, the Forest of Bowland and The Lake District National Park.

Really enjoyed our stay. Great position for walks with our dog. Lovely location by the river in the heart of the City. Well equipped, nice touches: wine and cheese and even a can of dog food on arrival. Very clean and welcoming. Will definitely stay again.

Sadly however, it would appear that cleanliness standards have dropped since the last review of a stay in October.
There were two bread rolls blue with mould with a packet dated 7 November in the bread bin.
The kitchen work surfaces hadn’t been cleaned – looked dirty and were sticky to touch – and the floor hadn’t been swept. In one of the cupboards was a plastic box with condiment sachets – the lid of the box being absolutely filthy.
The bathroom was worse, again the sink and toilet hadn’t been cleaned, with the toilet quite disgusting: brown marks on both the inside and outside. The toothbrush holder also hadn’t been cleaned. The blind was thick with dust.
Still, at least the blind in the bathroom was in place, the bedroom blind/curtain was lying on top of the wardrobe with no way of hanging it up.
We spent an hour cleaning the bathroom and kitchen and sweeping the floors.
A few other lowlights were the bathmat impregnated with grass and dirt, the smashed lightbulb on the floor of the dining area and the crumbs in the throw on the sofa.
On the plus side there was plentiful hot water and the shower was fine, although it leaked.
The worst aspect was coming in one night to find no power. As there were no contact details for the owner we spent the night in the cold – and it was cold – and the dark. This is patently unsafe in a flat with stairs and low beams. In the morning we checked the meter in the cellar and discovered the meter was in debit – i.e. the owners hadn’t paid their bill.
We contacted the booking agents Sykes who were very helpful and sympathetic. They managed to contact one of the owners who came out and topped up the meter. We had gone out to get warm, so didn’t meet the owner but Sykes called us later to say the owner disputed our claims about the cleanliness of the property, and that was it. No apology for renting out a property that was without power for anything up to 24 hours. On top of that he/she walked past various piles of dirt we had swept into corners and saw no issue with cleanliness.
The whole experience has been the worst in over 25 years of renting holiday homes. The owners’ lack of concern for our comfort was disgraceful.
An apology is still awaited.
