Basic pub food with small sized portions. The food took a while to arrive and when it did several of the dishes were cold- average score

Our first visit although local. Presently surprised how busy it was on a Tuesday evening. Nice selection on menu. Would have preferred ordering at table not a bar, but that's the way it's run. Meals were served by a very competent waitress. Food was very tasty. Will definitely visit again.

Before anything else I must mention our waitress Jess, although she was very small and could barely see us over the bar... she really was excellent.

We visited on a Sunday early and it wasn’t very busy luckily as we had a large group and a baby, Jess tucked us away on a large table with a Baby chair and dealt with our order and further drinks in a timely manner.

Food generally was decent, It’s a pub at the end of the day so you can’t expect Raymond Blanc to come out with some master chef quality food... but as far as pub food goes it’s very good.

The Nut and Squirrel is a very homely pub, it’s comfy, it’s clean, it’s friendly and we enjoy visiting.

Went here for mother's day because we took our mother aged 99 with us and this was near her home. On the positive side the new look is very welcoming. The service was excellent. Our waitress Jess was very attentive. Every time mum wanted more gravy or custard - no problem. They even found mum a comfortable seat so she could get out of a wheelchair. Overall the staff did a good job on Mothers Day and they were short staffed.
The problem with this pub is the food. The lentil/ sweet potato cottage pie was miserable and the vegetables beside it looked lost. The Eton Mess Sundae did not live up to expectation. It was Eton Mess ice cream with a little bit of compote and even less meringue. The members of our party who had a roast or the fish and chips said they enjoyed their dinner. The apple pies and crumble went down Ok but my husband said that the very small jug of custard was a joke.
Ember inns should get their act together with the food. Also they should give some of their staff lessons on how to smile and connect with their customers. They didn't come across as rude just lacking in the "look happy " ethic which is essential to any great restaurant.
