We needed somewhere for a single night on our way north to break up a 350mile journey. The convenience, location and facilities of the Birchover apartment could not have been better. With a toddler it was fantastic that he could roam around the apartment and of course we could cook our own food once he'd gone to bed. The sauna was great fun too. In the morning we were back on the M1 in no time. We'll be staying again.

My husband and I were travelling through the area and I had only booked one night here that morning. I did some quick review searches and decided to book The Birchover Residences for £67.50 without looking into too much detail about the place - unusual for me to do such little research but I was rushed for time.

Having booked a 'superior one double room apartment' I was a little sceptical about the accommodation with such a bargain price but wasn't too concerned as it was just for one evening.

What a huge surprise we were in for. The apartment actually had 2 bedrooms (both ensuite) with a spacious entrance hallway, and large living/kitchen area. The parking spaces are a little tight but this is my only complaint if i had to be picky about the whole place.

I received an email after booking with an access code to retrieve the apartment key - fuss free, hassle free and easy. Checking out was even more simple - just lock the door and post the key through the letter box.

The kitchen was fully stocked with cutlery, crockery and a tray of some simple cereals, tea, coffee and squash. A free pint of milk was also in the fridge! Apartment also includes a dishwasher and washing machine for longer stays.

The decor is relatively dated but grand. The carpet had some marks but nothing to complain about as it didn't effect our comfort or stay in anyway.

The 1st bedroom is a twin room with ensuite bathroom (with bath) - lovely clean marble decor.

The 2nd bedroom had a double bed with an ensuite shower room hidden in the wardrobe doors - complete with a 2 person sauna to my surprise! An absolute luxury which we took advantage of after a long day of travelling.

I'm a stickler for neighbour noise - at this apartment (there are only 2 on every floor per block) you could hear some noise if in the entrance hallway which is by the door but no noise was heard once in the bedroom or in the living area.

Towels supplied in both bathrooms and simple toiletries. Bathrobes would be a nice touch too.

All for £67.50 - I believe the room is usually charged at over £100 and I would happily pay this if I were to stay in the area again.

The apartments are very easy to find as it's literally just off the motorway.

If you want a self sufficient and hassle free stay this is the place to go.

Firstly, we stayed at the Birchover, Darley Abbey as we had won a competition for people / families who deserved a break. I won't go into detail about my entry, but we were very grateful to win this very generous offer of a three night break.
Location
The Apartments are located about 2 miles from Derby Centre, the location is very peaceful and there is a large park approx 5 minutes walk away. It is also approx 35 minutes from Alton Towers and we visited the Waterpark there during our stay (this again, was a gift from the Birchover Residences). The Apartments are on a Dual Carriageway which give you great access to all neighbouring areas.
The Apartment
We were lucky enough to stay in a Penthouse Apartment, the Apartments are broken down into blocks with their own entrance. They are serviced by a lift to assist with any luggage, There is also ample free car parking.
Our apartment (I believe most two bedroom apartments are similar in size and layout) had two very large bedroom, both with their own bathroom. There is lots of wardrobe space for storage, and in the Master bathroom is where the sauna is. This was used daily by us all, and was a welcome extra.
The bedding was all crisp, clean and very comfortable. The curtains are so heavy they block out all light (I love a dark room) and the noise from the roads is minimal. The towels were very luxurious and there were full size bath sheets unlike many places I've stayed.
Kitchen area
Kitchen area was more than an adequate size and was better equipped than mine at home, we had a dishwasher (dishwasher tablets provided) and a washing machine, which came in very useful to wash swimming items and some clothing before our return home.
Living Dining area
There were two comfortable sofa's in the living area, and a TV / DVD player, TV was freeview with Sky Sports channels - thankfully we visited on a weekend where there was no Premier League games otherwise it's likely we would never have left the apartment!
The apartments are very warm - this was without heating, however if you like it warmer there is heating and thermostatic controls, as well as an electric fire in living area. If you like it cooler there are fans provided.
There was Tea / Coffee provided and a breakfast basket of cereal and fresh milk.
Food
The first evening we ate out at The Joiners Arms, the food was beautiful, however that's a whole different review. It was located about 3 miles away in Quandon and a taxi was approx £6.
We purchased some food from Sainsbury in Derby Intu Shopping Centre and also ordered a chinese take away using Just Eat.
The apartments are so quiet, we barely saw anyone, despite them being full. All staff that we met were very friendly and informative about the local area.
Carl and Lisa, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for a lovely stay, your very kind gesture means a lot and I wish you and all the team a very successful future.

First impressions always count and I was not disappointed this time, when my wife and I stayed for a couple of days.
There was a welcome pack of breakfast goodies and all the equipment and furniture one would want for a short or long stay. The kitchen area was also very clean and tidy.
Although we did not have the heating on ,it did feel very warm in there which makes a nice change from having to heat somewhere up when you arrive. There was only a little bit of traffic noise,. Nothing to complain about. I had a fan in the bedroom so that cut any outside noise off. I will say that the bed was a little on the small size and that the duvet was beautifully warm. A little too warm for me. So the fan was useful.
Everything anyone could want and the girl in reception was very helpful even recommending a shop for us when we enquired after her riding/field jacket,
Thank you for a nice pleasant visit.

Room tip: The Rooms are all Self Catering ,but do include some suites.

This is my 3rd stay at Birchover and hopefully there will be many more. We came with friends so booked a 2 bed apartment. This is ideal as each has its own bathroom facilities even a sauna. Carl and his team really know how to look after their customers. I forgot to bring a dvd just incase but of course they have a small library of them to borrow. The apartments are so well equipped and warm with plenty of hot water. Handy to visit lots of places nearby. Good carparking. Lift as there are three floors to each block of apartments. The A38 is behind but noise is not obvious in bedrooms, I noticed it in the ensuite only. Thank you for another great stay.

Room tip: Not on ground level for privacy only
