Every aspect of renting this cottage was first rate: from contact to payment to directions and arrival. Our gracious host and owner, Kieran Ruane, met us and provided an excellent tour of the property and its amenities, which included an apple tart with tea tray. Attention to detail is what sets this property apart from others. Immaculate in appearance, tastefully decorated with comfortable seating and beds.
The cottage is well supplied with kitchen ware, towels and bedding. A huge stack of peat is available for cool evening fires in the working fireplace. Satellite TV is provided as well as radio with CD player. The hairdryer was most appreciated. Washer and dryer are also on site. Outdoor seating options are pleasant and include a charcoal grill for cooking.
The property is large with groomed trails for walking and a steam for fishing. It is located on a peaceful rural road yet within waking distance of the local village, Gurteen (Gorteen). Gurteen has a well stocked grocery, pubs with traditional Irish music, and a discount-hardware store.
Several flyers for local attractions are in the foyer. We made good use of them during our stay.
James Tymon Cottage met all our needs and more, a true gem, with a most gracious and interesting host. Thanks for a memorable stay.

What a find! An excellent warm welcoming cottage superbly located for touring this idylic part of Ireland. The cottages extensive lands were a gem for our Hungarian Vizsla who never tired of chasing hares and pheasants over the cottages extensive well managed lands. Needless to say she never caught any. Gurteen is a gem for Traditional Music which is easily walkable if one wanted to leave the car at home. Kieran was most welcoming and the now infamous apple pie was waiting for us when we arrived. There is an abundance of turf to keep the range and fire going plus this is backed up by cental heating if required. An excellent cottage and we all had a great time. We will certainly be back to Tymons.

We stayed at James Tymon Farmhouse with our two young kids and our big red and white setter. We all fell in love with the place. Kieran's welcome was warm and the cottage is immaculate and fully equipped. We ventured out for a couple of days to Lough Key forest park. On the other days, we were perfectly happy to walk around the land and come back to a roaring turf fire. I can't recommend James Tymon's highly enough. Exceptional in every way!
