“Be very careful”
Reviewed 15 November 2010

Monasterboice is beautiful, easy to get to and free.
Cars are broken into every day. The parking lot is full of broken glass and warning signs.
Take all your valuables out of the car and carry them with you.
If you can leave someone with your car at all times.
We found out the hard way.

“Best High Crosses in Ireland”
Reviewed 8 June 2010

Love Irish cemeteries to begin with but this is by far the best in the country. Between the usual mix of very old and new graves that is typical for Irish cemeteries, which this one has also, this had the added attractions of a round tower, decent church ruins, and 2 of the best high Crosses in the country. I've come here many times and still find new things to look at.

“Superb Crosses and Round Tower”
Reviewed 26 January 2010

Monasterboice is just off the A-1, just north of Drogheda, and features the largest High Cross in Ireland, along with one of the highest and one of the oldest. The Cross of Muiredach features wonderful carvings on virtually all its surfaces and is the the most massive on the island. Closer to the round tower (a good example other than its missing top, blown off by lightning) is a taller cross, also well covered with biblical carvings, while the oldest in the trio is near the east boundary of the site. It is from the nnth century and right next to it, a rather intriguing sundial. There are numerous burial sites and a ruined church, as well, making Monasterboice a real gem. The site is open all year and can be accessed by a stile even when no one is in attendance.

“A Great Spot”
Reviewed 2 September 2008

Monasterboice is a great place to view High Crosses in Ireland. We loved our visit, even though it was a very rainy day. The crosses are amazing.

“Quick site, but worth it”
Reviewed 1 July 2008

Monasterboice doesn't take very long to check out, but it's worth the stop. The round tower, ruins, and Celtic crosses make for some great pictures.
