Stayed in the Kilkenny Tourist Hostel for the Kilkenny Rhythm and Roots festival at the end of April / beginning of May this year with a bunch of friends. The hostel owners were very accommodating and helped our group of friends acquire a dorm room between ourselves which greatly added to our enjoyment of the weekend as we weren't interrupting any other tourists or groups of friends. The lovely receptionist was very chilled, polite and welcoming also. And a Ryan Adams fan too, which is a sign of a great person! ;)
The prices were quite reasonable, about €50 for three nights in a six-bed dorm.
The hostel itself is spacious, a little musty but it's all part of the character. A large kitchen with good facilities was beneficial, too as it allowed us to do some shopping and cook our meals in the hostel. The bathrooms were perfectly fine with good showers. Even though the hostel was quite full of people, given the busy weekend it was, there were little to no queues for the showers / toilets.
The hostel is very much for young people and those who want to explore Kilkenny, stay out late and generally use the place as a good, safe place to leave belongings, sleep and eat. I would perhaps warn off families and older people given the large amount of young people listening to music, chatting and enjoying themselves. It's very much a youthful hostel and perhaps the older generation or families would have trouble sleeping due to noise.
I really enjoyed my stay at the hostel and would definitely book it again should I return to Kilkenny. It's in a great location, just a 30 second walk from Cleere's, one of the best bars in town. We met some lovely people from all over Europe in the hostel also, so it's a great friendly place as well.
