We gave the G another go, as we heard the manager had improved things from our last visit a few years ago.

Things have improved, but it's a mixed bag. Valet parking is back, but now at a price. 10 euro to park your car.

The newspapers in the morning are back, but you have to pay for the irish times. I asked for the independant (free), it was not delivered at all.

The spa was not as packed as before (great improvement) but the heating system was malfunctioning. The staff were lovely and did apologise for this.

The bar is good, great quality cocktails delivered in style. Spicy Fifty is a great cocktail, good margarita too. Bar and table service was slow though and more confusing than it should be. We were a group of four, and all ordered drinks. Both rooms had pre-authorised credit cards so we could sign the bills to the rooms rather than carry cash. This just did not work. We each signed room numbers for the first two rounds, and then the slips stopped coming with the drinks. We actually wanted another drink but could not get the attention of a bar person so gave up and went to bed. Much confusion on check-out trying to figure out which room had all the drinks assigned to it, as no-one had been asked to sign for anything past the first drink. This is bad practice. Bills should never be automatically added to a room without a guest signature.

Rooms are clean, but the worn furnishings are not being replaced as time goes on. The shell pillows are all frayed and stained with the button missing on them, but they still put them in the rooms. Better to omit them I think in that state. We liked that the iced welcome buns are back though.

All in all, not special enough for us to return again, but I would recommend to people for one visit.

I live in Galway but have not stayed overnight at The G as it would be silly to stay when you live down the road....ok, I admit I have done that at The Twelve, but I wouldn't make a habit of it...I love being home, in my own bed...nothing like it.

I really enjoy girlie treats....afternoon tea's, pink Champagne, spa breaks and cocktails....what girlie girl wouldn't? The G seems to be a haven for pretentious people, I used to like it but it's just too fake now... so I just go for a glass of Prosecco while waiting for a movie at the Eye cinema next door..it's nice to come in, listen to music and relax with your favourite 'overpriced' tipple..

The Afternoon tea is delightful, don't get me wrong, pink Champagne is delightful, finger sandwiches and miniature wraps and scones with cream, all yummy in the silver lounge area by the fire on tables filled with Swarovski Crystals and a piano player (very rarely see a player now).
Drinks also come with a bowl of bar nuts-which I never touch.... everyone knows the bar nuts urban legend of unwashed bathroom hands but it's a welcomed gesture.

What compelled me to write this article is my disgust at their latest.... movie & pub grub combined offers for cinema goers....it's just awful to walk into a '5 star' hotel, have 2 of the 4 lounge areas cut off for people availing of the offer, the smell of deep fried fish and chips hits you like a gale force wind when you walk in, paper napkins all over the floors as groups of people hunched over small glass coffee tables, crumbs all over the tables that never seem to be cleaned... it's just not what you expect from a 5 star hotel....it's completely ruining the look...can people not just go to the restaurant or Eddie Rockets next door and leave the cocktail bar for the cocktails? I understand that in economic depression, companies must do their best to keep the funds coming in but if you go to a 5 star hotel cocktail bar, you expect luxury, not fish 'n' chips and stale food odours hitting you the minute you come in the door.....it's just not what it used to be...4 stars at a stretch if you ask me...

This was a great hotel. Stayed here in April for 1 night on Good Friday, had a great time.

Pros:
Staff are extremely friendly
Look and feel of the hotel and the rooms is very cool, very modern yet retro
Food and service is great if you are eating or drinking here
Nice 5 star hotel
5 star means 5 star price, but you definitely get what you pay for!

Cons: A bit of hike to some of the rooms and the lighting in the halls is too dark. But there's a real funky look to it, so that may be part of the adventure.

Thanks for the great stay G!

The g is a stylish well designed hotel. Quirky yet classy at the same time, this hotel was fab when it opened first. Unfortunately it has lost some of it's lustre. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well appointed but the bar areas were very cold and virtually empty both nights. Atmosphere was non existent! The breakfast served in the dining room was luke warm the first morning but when we ordered to the room next day it came in a hot box and was perfect. Overall this hotel is nice but has it's shortcomings....heat being the biggest one!!
