Description: The food is based on our terroir, the ensemble of natural influences that give a food a sense of place. In the west of Ireland we are surrounded by lush ancient woodland, bountiful shorelines, thriving farmlands all heaving with some of the best ingredients in Europe but unique to us. Aniar obeys the seasons and lets nature decide our menu.Recently returned from Noma, the Danish restaurant, voted the World’s Best Restaurant 2011, Enda McEvoy heads the kitchen. He works closely with local producers while also gathering wild herbs, plants and seaweeds each day from the woodlands and seashore around the area to produce a cuisine based around light clean flavours.Light sauces and stocks, properly reared animals (utilizing all of the animal), sustainably caught fish with an eye to the future of the fishing industry and evolving with the seasons using vegetables, herbs, fruits and berries, either from the wild or cultivated, all encompass the Aniar philosophy. The Chefs pickle and brine as much as is bountiful during the spring and summer to see the restaurant through the winter. Enda explains “we use modern culinary techniques to obtain the best out of the ingredients, while never losing sight of the integrity of the produce”.

One of my newest favourite restaurants in Galway. Cannot say enough about the quality of food, service and general ambiance of this place. Book in advance because this place is hot!

“Amazing Dining Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2012

What an amazing dining experience, we opted for the surprise tasting menu ( waiter checked we weren't allergic or if there was anything we wouldn't eat) it was divine. The staff were very friendly and passionate about their restaurant and the food, they really took pride in their job, which was lovely to witness and added to the overall experience. The tasting menu was forty euro for five courses and bread, we added the wines per course, which took the bill up to sixty euro per person, for the standard of food & service it was exceptional value, we'll be back, this restaurant serves Michelin star food. It's a small restaurant, I recommend you book to ensure you get in.

“A top-5 ever meal - thanks Trip Advisor!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2012

A truly brilliant meal, we found the restaurant on Trip Advisor and liked the idea of the tasting menu mentioned. When we received standard menus we asked about the tasting menu, and like others were told 'well its not printed, trust me...' very glad we did, we really enjoyed all the dishes and really enjoyed the experience of having each explained (our server- i'm sorry i didn't have his name, was encyclopedic on the ingredients), guessing what each course would be, and enjoying the matched wines as well. It's not cheap by most standards but we thought it was excellent value for the artisan ingredients and innovative flair of the cooking. Would be back in a heartbeat!
