Went for two nights with three friends for the 6 Nations rugby - a little tricky to find at first but the hosts arranged a local taxi to pick us up on arrival. After that the bus service did the job leaving us a five minute walk to and from the house to a bus service into the centre of Dublin or the airport or the rail station at Rush and Lusk linking to the city centre or the coast north or south of the city. It was also possible to walk along the beach into the centre of Rush and the Harbour Bar in particular was easily accessible in less than ten minutes this way.
If you don't have a car however there are no shops particularly handy so you need to plan shopping needs on arrival if you plan to self-cater.
Jason the host was particularly welcoming although we were not at the apartment for much more than sleeping
