Very Impressive Looking Building & Rooms

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Aug 2024
First time staying with the Clayton Hotel chain and was really impressed by the look of the room and overall hotel. Very grand looking building. One thing that is annoying is all of their Deluxe rooms are located in the basement and 1st floor so don't expect a great view out of the window. There is also no air con in the hotel and not much sound proofing either as I could hear a lot of noise coming from the corridors. I found the bed to be quite firm but I guess it just depends on your preference of mattress. Another little thing that annoyed me was that the TV remote had a button for YouTube & Netflix but whenever I pressed these buttons the TV told me it didn't have a signal, I asked reception about this but apparently it just doesn't work and the TV's don't actually have the functionally for this. The shower in my room also wasn't the cleaness and I found a few hairs in the base of it which was slightly disapointing especially for a 4 star hotel. Breakfast was nothing special. Parking is €12 per night.

Check in was warm . Rooms no complaints although I am not a fan of shower curtains in modern hotels and these should be removed . Water provided along with usual kettle , tea and coffee. Had a drink in the bar which is modern and very nicely done . Shout out to the bearded barman (think he was French) who made a cocktail quite late in evening for a customer who was before me . This shows really brilliant customer service as the cocktail area was closed and the barman went out of his way to help the customer. Breakfast was nice with smoothies and nice granola shots . Car park is very tight getting about in big car and hotel needs to make this better . Sandymount Dart station is just across the road which made it handy for me getting into city . Overall , I found the staff in the hotel really cared so well done staff

Room tip: Carefully car park very tight

First issue - our sink plug was stuck. Someone came to our room to fix the issue while we were out and then took the key from our room for no apparent reason.
We had to call reception at lunchtime to request teabags and milk as our room had not been cleaned. They did not send anyone up.

We went out for dinner and got back after 6.30pm and our room was still not made up. Rang reception twice to get someone to bring clean cups, towels and more water. Beds not made and we had to ask for the bins to be emptied.

The room was hot and stuffy as there is no air conditioning. The shower mould needs addressing.
For the money we were very disappointed.

Very nice hotel, staff was helpful. Room was a bit tight, but we had friends in other rooms that were larger. Very clean and kept up. Buffet breakfast was well done, quality food and lots of choices. The breakfast and bar areas were spacious making it easy for people traveling with groups to get together. Nice location, embassy homes close by. Walking distance to pubs. We enjoyed our stay. Nice hotel.

The experience fell far short of expectations due to several issues that I encountered.

Firstly, I received an email three days prior to check-in encouraging me to check in online to save time on the day of arrival. However, when I arrived at the hotel at 3 PM, the designated check-in time, I was informed that my room was not ready. To my dismay, there were at least a dozen other guests in the lobby also waiting for their rooms. Most of us were attending the Taylor Swift concert, with gates opening at 5 PM, yet our room was not available until after 4:30 PM. This caused significant inconvenience as many guests, including myself, had to use the downstairs restaurant bathroom to get ready for the event. Once we did get into our rooms after 4:30pm, the floor was still wet and slippy as it may have just been cleaned (checkout is 11am) and the hallway to the room was lined with empty glasses, dirty dishes and trash.

The staff’s attitude compounded the frustration. They were unhelpful and seemed completely indifferent to the delays and the discomfort of their guests. There was no apology or explanation provided for the nearly two-hour wait for our rooms.

Additionally, the next morning, there was an issue with the access door to the rooms which required an access key. Several guests, including myself, were unable to get back to our rooms due to an issue with the door. There were no staff members in sight to assist, and it was only after another guest went to the front desk to report the issue that it was addressed.

Overall, the lack of readiness, poor customer service, and additional access issues made for a very disappointing stay. I hope the management of Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge will take these concerns seriously and improve their service for future guests.

It was a massively disappointing stay and the hotel staff seemed so unorganised for one of the busiest weekends of the year in the Dublin. They were quick to charge premium rates for staying there during a busy weekend but they failed to deliver a service to their guests which you would expect for such prices.

Very very busy with too many events and gatherings going on.
The hotel lacked the personal touch as do most city hotels, but the staff at the grandstand restaurant was marvellous and did their best.
The food was tasty, but the sitting arrangements at the dining room were disjointed.
