Arrived today before 3.pm and was told we could not have cream tea as they had no scones! We find it strange as they should have been better organised as this was within a school holiday week and a more favourable weather forecast. Also we find it strange that they have 2 lovely bakers ovens which could fire a batch of scones in less than 15 minutes. Does this mean they do not bake their own cakes etc. We also notice once again a lack of leadership within they front of house area with no clear lines of co-ordinated communication i.e.. one server took the order then did not follow it through, resulting in a slow and disjointed service. We also noticed a child sliding along a counter where ice cream is served, which is not good practice from a food hygiene point of view.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thanks for coming out to mannerstons last week, we appreciate all the customers that come.

In terms of your review I see your main gripe is that when you arrived at 3pm there weren’t any scones left. Unfortunately without the benefit of a crystal ball, it is extremely difficult to predict how busy we will be on any given day and indeed what customers will buy aswell. Indeed, on 9/10 days we have scones left over at the end of the day so the lack of scones is an isolated occurrence thankfully. That said I apologise that there weren’t any for you When you visited.

You state in your review that we should have simply made more scones but this isn’t always possible. Our bakers start at 5am and so finish around 1pm and we find this usually covers our requirements. It is disappointing that you make an assertion that we aren’t baking our own cakes etc. On the contrary I don’t know of another cafe locally that makes all its own bread, cakes and scones from scratch.

In terms of the service you mention it was slow and disjointed. We always strive to provide the best service possible. When we are busy, it will always take longer to get orders taken and drinks to be served. All our staff work extremely hard to minimise this.

Thanks again for coming to mannerstons.

Enjoyed a lovely late lunch here today; quality of food and variety of choice good and very tasty; service excellent, even although it was busy when we arrived, and we left with the feeling that nothing was too much trouble.

Have been here a few times now. Food is good hence why i have returned. However the one thing that consistently lets them down is the poor service. Stand for ages waiting to be given a table without so much as acknowledgement. None of the staff seem to know what the other is doing. Was in yesterday when it wasn’t even a busy time and the same happened again so decided to bring it up with the staff that perhaps even just saying i will be with you in a minute is better than just ignoring the customers, not that they seemed to take any notice. Have given this place the benefit of the doubt in the past but unfortunately don’t think i will be returning in a hurry.

Arrived at 1430 for afternoon tea ,they were sold out of scones,we were asked if we would accept Victoria sponge instead of scones which all four agreed to however we only received one piece of Victoria sponge with other cakes presumably they were sold out of Victoria sponge as well. They did not accept bookings for afternoon tea perhaps if they did they would have a better idea of the amount of scones required. Our table was at the emergency exit and the door requires attention as there is quite a gap with cold air blowing in.Not the best experience.

I've had both great and poor experiences at Mannerstons. Some lovely food, to pretty average with poor service. A number of dirty cups/ glasses ( i think they need to look at their dishwasher). I would go back again but not as the first choice. The shop section is better than the cafe.
