“Rustic, lovely and serene”
Reviewed 8 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We had a wonderful week in Epona! Janet and Ian are such warm, gracious hosts. We had a small problem with the washing machine and the WIFI and they were there immediately to remedy the situation. The cottage felt like home, and we loved looking out at the sheep, horses, even a few hens meandering about every morning. The view was spectacular, and so blissfully quiet. I wish we were still there! The week went by too quickly. I recommend at least two if you can spare the time (which, by the way, feels much less pressing surrounded by the beauty and natural wonders of Skye, and the comforts of Epona cottage.)

“What a perfect escape”

Janet and Ian provided a warm welcome and Epona cottage is delightful. The views are stunning and some wonderful walks nearby. During our stay we swam and canoed with seals, marvelled at sea eagles and searched long and hard for elusive sea otters. If you like peace and quiet Epona cottage is the place to stay.
It is miles from anywhere so bring all the cooking stuff you need. You can buy coal from Janet and Ian and the Tallisker distillery isn't far away.
I can't recommend it highly enough

“Perfect no matter what the weather”

For those seeking a quiet retreat, Epona Cottage is the place to spend a week. But be warned: You may not want to leave!

The weather was typically west-coast Scotland, in that we say rain, hail, sleet and high winds, sometimes all at the same time with wonderful bursts of sunshine in between. lol Still, it didn't stop us from going out and exploring!

And for those who just want to settle in and relax, there are plenty of books (a few hundred easily) and dvd's to keep you entertained for a long time.

The owners are extremely friendly, and after we had checked out, we went over to their place (which is next door in case you have any questions) for coffee for a few hours.

We would definitely go back.

“Escapists idyll”
Reviewed 4 December 2014 for a stay in August 2014

The furthest cottage on the furthest peninsular on far-flung Skye ... we couldnt have wished for a better escape. Epona cottage is different ... ............. that is what showed in the web-site pictures, and is what we sought. It isnt glitzy or modern or state-of-the-art or "luxury" ... but it is very comfortable, cosy, personal, well appointed (kitchen has everything!) and with more books than we could have read in a month of wet days (we didnt have ANY wet days!!) Walking from the cottage was lovely (though surprisingly strenuous), the views magnificent. There was kyaking and swimming, a visit from a yachting friend who moored in the bay below, lots of botanising and bird and cetacean watching. ..... and just watching. Janet and family were very welcoming and helpful..
We did end up driving alot because this was our first visit to Skye and wanted to see the hotspots ... which in a way we regretted because the Waternish Peninsular itself had enough for a week's exploration. That was our over-ambitious planning. This cottage is a place to rest and be quiet, to enjoy the immediate and not race after the new. We loved it.

“A wonderful home from home”

I wish Epona cottage was my forever home. Such a warm and welcoming cottage that truly felt like a home from home. We stayed for 4 nights in October and admittedly, we fell incredibly lucky with the weather, We wish we had booked for longer but as this was our first trip together to the Isle we opted for a short stay in case of bad weather. Honestly, it wouldn't have mattered if it had poured it down all day every day, this would still have been an amazing place. The open fire made it all the more cosy and making up the fire became my favourite thing to do. The kitchen is well equipped, we brought along our slow cooker out of laziness but had we been inclined to make a three course meal for a family we would have had everything we needed. The bed, wow, that bed. Its huge! And so comfy and warm. Had the outside world not had so much to offer I could have stayed in that bed all day. Its darker than I have ever experienced on Waternish, I think a school trip to a colliery in my youth was the closest to how dark it was, and the only sound was the wind outside, which made for an excellent nights sleep. it also makes for excellent star gazing, the milky way being crystal clear. We were lucky enough to see the Aurora one night too! If you are planning a visit, i recommend "liking" Glendale Skye Aurora on Facebook, as it regularly updates if it is visible.
The owners are an incredibly warm and welcoming couple, who we were sad to say good bye to but pleased to know we will see again. I cant wait to come back Mr and Mrs Bradshaw, see you next year and thank you for a wonderful stay.
