Review of Craft & Harbour

Craft & Harbour
Ranked #3 of 195 Restaurants in Ayr
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$ 7 - US$ 33
Description: Welcome to Craft & Harbour, a modern, Scottish fish and chip restaurant in Ayr. We believe in fresh, locally sourced ingredients, hand-prepared and cooked to order by our chefs. We offer a range of traditional suppers and seafood options along with our homemade sauces, sides and pickles. Our kitchen offers great lunchtime dishes and we offer delicious soups, starters and sides. As a family restaurant, we are family-friendly: our kids menu will keep the little ones well-fed and the restaurants contemporary design is open and relaxed. We do, of course, have a wonderful evening setting for the quieter, special nights: the lights go down and the candles add some sparkle.

As we live in Glasgow it had been a while since our last visit - our meal on Saturday was just as fantastic as before! I had two of the specials, chilli squid and baked sardines, both were fresh and delicious; my partner had the cod and chips and thoroughly enjoyed it (not a thing left on either plate!). The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Also the added bonus that we could bring our dog with us (is a dog friendly restaurant). Will definitely be back.

I have now been to this restaurant on several occasions and the fish is amazing. It's always fresh and the batter is perfect. I've had the breaded fish and it's just as good. It's very good value for money and you get a free ice cold bottle of water with your meal.

The tablet fudge cake is amazing.

It's a fairly small restaurant and the decor is simple. The parking is free out front. Thoroughly Recommended.

I was travelling with my Husband and dog up from London, staying in a caravan south of Ayr, and we fancied a break from self-catering so looked for recommended restaurants in Ayr. Craft & Harbour came highly recommended, and after a telephone query the manageress Ann confirmed that our dog would be welcome. The restaurant is very tastefully renovated, it looks like it was once a pub, with a lovely warm family vibe and fabulous service by Ann and her team. The menu is seafood-oriented, but there is a wealth of brilliant non-seafood options for anyone not that way inclined, so don't be put off if you are in a large group with differing tastes as there is something for everyone. I had mussels in white wine sauce to start, and Ann suggested trying some added chorizo which the chef obliged and it was lovely. My Husband had the cajun spiced calamari off the specials which was also really good. In addition, because he wavered over the Cullen Skink also, he was presented with a small portion to taste which was very kind (and very tasty). For the mains, I had a Monkfish supper... I'm a big fan of Monkfish and had never had it as traditional fish & chips before, and it was amazing... my husband had a chicken breast wrapped in bacon with a black pudding mash also off the specials, I cheekily had a bit and it was delicious. We both had sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was very moreish; we could have had another each. Our beloved pooch also got a bowl of water and a sausage kindly provided with the chef's compliments, and finally the wine (house Sauvignon Blanc) went down very easily. All told, we had an unforgettable dining experience thanks to the quality of the food, service, atmosphere, decor and a very friendly Scottish welcome. The only downside is we live 300 miles away, but we plan to come back to Ayr and to the Craft & Harbour. Well done to everyone involved!
