Arrived at Prestwick too late for our car rental pickup so we had to improvise. Went on Booking.com and found a room available with just enough time to book it. Got a train to Ayr and hopped off at the 'Newton-on-Ayr' stop. Thankfully the walk was about 3 minutes from the train stop. Rang the bell and were greeting by Margaret who turned out to be lovely. The room we booked wasn't available but she was able to find a vacant one for us for the night. She fired up the heater for us and the room got quite comfortable in no time at all. It was also equipped with an extra bed (one double, one single) which was great because it was easy to drop our stuff and still have plenty of space. Tv on the wall, sink in the room, water heater for tea as well as tea bags and mugs. The bathroom had toiletries for us to use which was great. Shower was blazing hot if you didn't dial it back to about 4.5 so no need to worry about a cold shower. Breakfast was great, it actually drove us to ask for another night due to the convenience of location and the excellent hospitality. Beds were the most comfortable I've had in Europe, two pillows for each person. Easy check out. I recommend a stay here if you ever find yourself in Ayr... which according to the locals is absolutely bonkers! Thanks Margaret!

Our room was on the ground floor. The room was cold - turned the radiator right up but clearly heating not on /working. Same next day.

No running hot water in the sink in either the shared toilet or the shared shower room morning or night! And no sink in the room. Both hot and cold taps ran cold water even after running them for 5 mins.
This is really unhygienic especially considering these facilities are shared with atleast 2 other rooms.

Shower room covered in cobwebs; these were not cobwebs made over a few days. These have clearly been here a while. See photos.
The bath was disgusting and the plug hole choked with matted hair. The bathroom fan was full of dust. See photos.

As a previous poster mentioned in a much earlier post, the 'lock' on the shared toilet door is wholly unsuitable as the door is not able to close completely.
In general the shared toilet room smells unclean.
After this did not wish to sample the breakfast.

On a positive note the bedroom is quite spacious. And the beds comfortable. And plenty of plugs.

We were pleasantly surprised at a lovely gift from our daughter, of a night away in a Prestwick guesthouse, namely the Kilkerran Guest house.
Situated on a busy main road, parking is available to guests, very handy.
We got a friendly greeting from Margaret, who showed us our room at the top of the stairs.
Our room (no.4) was a decent size, comfy twin beds, clean, bright and was furnished with a wardrobe, chest of drawers and tv. There was also a small washbasin and mirror. The toilet and bath/shower were shared between three rooms.
Adequate soundproofing made for a pretty good sleep, considering the proximity of the main road.
And to breakfast! The small dining room accommodated 12 guests, but was not too cramped to move. Cereal & fruit juice were available, but we opted for the full Scottish! Sausage, bacon, black pudding, tattie scone, mushrooms, tomato, beans & egg how you wanted it, plus plenty toast, tea and coffee. Happy campers!
To summarise - pleasant stay, could maybe do with a wee makeover, excellent breakfast, good value for money.
Would definitely stay again.
