Stayed in the Horizon Hotel, with my new wife :-) We had a lovely room and were made to feel really special. We had sunset walks along the promenade and had a lovely dinner in the restaurant. For starter we had the tempura prawns and for main we had a lovely steak cooked to perfection a nice coffee and felt very relaxed before heading up the stairs to our room, the views were nice and we were very comfortable. The rooms were well cleaned and had everything we required. Ayr is a nice place to visit and we would recommend to anyone for a nice weekend away which is both reasonably priced and well located.

Stayed here with my fiancé and our 2 year old for 2 nights. The hotel is right on the beach practically and has the most lovely view of the sea and beach but still is only 5-10 minute walk from the shops.

The hotel reception, bar and restaurant downstairs is very modern and done up lovely with sofas and tables, which was handy when sitting with a toddler. The menu is decent enough with prices that are very reasonable for a hotel, as some charge silly amounts.

The hotel doesn't have a proper lift, just one of the type you would see in a shopping centre, where you close the door and hold down the button until you reach the floor you need. We were staying in the attic bedrooms, which the lift doesn't go to but we were aware of this before our arrival.

The rooms are very basic with only the necessities. The bathroom is quite small but sufficient for a small family. Certainly not as modern and funky as downstairs in the hotel.

We ate in one night, which was simple but nice, as we just had a burger with chips. Breakfast is lovely with a good variety to choose from.

In my opinion and my fiancé's opinion we did not find our stay overwhelmingly brilliant but it was okay. The staff serve you and you get what you need from them but the majority of them could do with smiling from time to time. We sometimes found ourselves apologising for what seemed like disturbing them to ask for what we needed (which wasn't much, just a couple of drinks), yet they were on duty and we weren't disturbing them at all! On checking out we werent thanked or anything just had the money taken and off we went. We payed £80pr both nights so our stay totalled £160 which I think is expensive for this place and I certainly would not pay anymore.

Overall we had a good time and have no real complaints but I don't think we would stay here again, but overpriced for what it really is as a hotel. Walking In to the reception restaurant are gives the impression of a modern, chic hotel but it's really quite the opposite!

When we arrived at the hotel it look lovely and that followed when we arrived at reception. The staff were very friendly and could not be more courties but it was let down when we visited the room. The room we stayed in was a twin - a bit small but ok for the two of us- but the bathroom was very small it had an electric shower witch was a bit flimsy and the shower cubical was very small - not suitable for larger people like me. The rooms were a bit out dated and not very clean as the back of the pillow was dirty and the bathroom sink was not very clean, the remote control for the tv was very dirty. The restraunt looked lovely and on the first night the food was delicious but on the second night there was at least 5 things witch were out of stock- the staff seid it was due to it being really busy but when we were eating our dinner there was only a few people eating- the staff were very sorry about it and gave us a bottle of wine on the house. Also the food witch was delivered was not up to standard as there was fish bones in a haddock soup witch I though was not wright , the staff were very apologetic and gave us an other starter. All in all the hotel was quite poor but this could be solved by updating the room, giving it a good clean and checking the food before it is served if these things we done I would have gave it a much better score.

Whilst we appreciate this customers opinions please note
At no time did the customer ask to be moved to a different room, if he experienced difficulties with the shower size. His complaints about housekeeping have been refered to staff.
The customer acknowledged that food on Saturday was delicious. On Sunday we had run out of some dishes. This was true, it was a busy bank holiday! The restaurant had been mobbed, the customer hadn't seen this as it had died down by the time he had arrived. The gentleman had ordered Chowder a traditional soup with chunks of haddock, unfortunately flaked fish sometimes has bones in it, his starter was changed. Under the circumstances our staff offered the guest a complimentary bottle of wine which he accepted, and THEN COMPLAINED!

The Horizon hotel is arguably one of the best hotels around in terms of atmosphere, friendlieness of staff, comfort and most of all the quality of the restaurant!
The rooms are very comfortable with free wifi and flatscreen tv's and if you get a seaview room then the view across the bay over to Arran are stunning especially as the sun sets.
And now the best bit ...... The food is simply amazing and would put many more upmarket establishments to shame.
I have been a guest here on many occassions and while all too often hotel restaurants are adequate at best, the food here is first class. The dishes I (and colleagues) have had, have always been of the highest quality beautifully presented, imaginatively created and absolutely gorgeous and have never been dissatisfied. The breakfasts fall into the same category also, always cooked to order and piping hot and unlike plenty other hotels.
I visit the horizon on a regular basis throught the year and every time the service and quality is exceptional. If i were a resident of Ayr then i would regularly dine here as the decor and ambience of the bar/restaurant area is very relaxing and comfortable.

Would recommend to ANYONE!

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms with a sea view givean excellent outlook.
