Booked for one night as going to wedding nearby. From my initial contact when booking to leaving we were treated to excellent service from Grant and his team. Our rooms were comfortable and beautifully decorated throughout. We arrived late back from the wedding and were able to relax in the bar with the lovely night porter attending to us.Breakfast was delicious and cooked to our requests. Hopefully be back to stay and would highly recommend. Thanks you for a wonderful stay

I've visited the Chestnuts to eat or drink many times over the years though cannot comment as a resident. It's pretty solid, reliable bar fayre. In winter, a log fire and cosy atmosphere are welcoming; in summer there's a brilliant beer garden. Staff are good. The only down side for me is that tables in the large bar area are reserved early evening time for diners only so, as a party of 4 regulars who may buy, say, 3 or 4 rounds of drinks, it's standing room only. For this reason, I only tend to go in summer when we can sit out in the lovely sheltered beer garden.

This is a small hotel. It has 14 rooms available. Actually it was functioning well at the level of a B&B. Not greatly luxurious but friendly people and personalised service from dedicated staff who clearly love the job they do.

The bedroom I had was adequate though size wise it was on the small side. There is flat screen television, kettle for making tea and coffee, hair dryer and such other appurtenances. Included also was a Gideon Bible. That was an especially thoughtful and welcome provision indeed.

The bathroom too is adequate, having a bath and a rubber slip-free mat. There is an interesting sign in the bathroom advising guests to allow the water to run for five minutes due to “the proximity of the boiler” or not! A pedant could probably take issue with the sign!

The shower and bath did produce enough hot water eventually. But the shower was really only functioning as a sprinkler.

Breakfast on Sundays are starting very late! But they kindly provided us Continental fare as we needed to get out at 7:30. That was great.

We have stayed and had dinner here a few years ago when we had a family wedding and we came back six years later for some food. We found the place as beautiful as we remembered it to be. Warm fires lightning up the cozy rooms, stunning building and great tasting food. Would recommend

Had a fantastic meal in the hotel, such a lovely warm atmosphere.First class service & food was superb. There was eight of us and everyone of us had a great meal, we all raved how good it was.It was very busy and we expected quite a wait, we were given first class service, I don’t know how they manage it, it is run like clockwork, absolutely fantastic. We had not one negative comment on our evening, thank you.
