We spent a week in Harbourview flat with friends for a wedding. The family of the groom rent some of Woodcroft cottages and flats. At our arrival, even if we exchanged a few days before by email, our friends told us the landlady had rent our flat to another people.
She didn't even call us to tell there was a problem, hopefully we had friends who were in touch with her to warn us, and to welcome us at their own cottage... In which we met the landlady who barely apologies, trying to justify herself accusing our friends of "bad communication".
We spent the first night on sofas in our friends cottage, and the landlady eventually let us our flat the night after.
The week was nice (in spite of dirty rust , but not the end...
The last day, just before our departure, we met the landlady to bring back our keys and know how to pay the rest of the amount (we already prepayed 100 £ deposit by bank transfer). We suggested to pay by bank transfer as we did before. The landlady wasn't ok first because she was'nt sure to have the exact amount (because of change rate between euros and sterling). She eventually seemed ok but... She wanted us to pay even for the first night, because we "used her accomodations" and "slept in her sofas, something [she] don't accept usually". She barely "offered" us a little discount for the first night.
Because we did'nt accept (how could we pay a night during which we did'nt use the flat she rented to somebody else, and for which she already has been payed by this other traveller ?), she became angry, forbidding us to leave Ayr without paying her CASH the total amount with a little discount for the first night.
She command me to get into her own car to bring me to the bank, in order to get some fresh money (for which I've since been charged by my bank...) to pay her after some kind of trade talk...
And in the car she barely beg me to say "thank you" for the week we spent in her flat !
I travel a lot in Europe, most of the time in bed and breakfasts, hosts cottages... I never had a such disturbing and dishonnest situation...
