The excellence began before we even got to the property. Correspondence with both contacts was friendly and easy and directions for arrival were simple.

The Basics:
We were warmly welcomed and given all necessary details. There was a welcome package of palace made jam, bread, and shortbread waiting for us. The property was very clean, furniture was comfy, and the kitchen was well equipped. There was an ironing board, an iron, and the washer and dryer worked perfectly. Everything appeared in person as it had in pictures.

The Extras:
The space was great. Lots of room to spread out and plenty of chairs in the sitting room for everybody. The view out the windows onto the property to the rear of the palace was beautiful. At night, rooms got nice and dark, and we never heard any noise from outside. I had to wake people up in the mornings to prevent them sleeping all day. The cafe had good scones, numerous other goodies, and we had had good coffee (cappuccino, latte, etc...).

Everybody we encountered was friendly and welcoming. You almost forget that you aren't the only people who have stayed at the palace.

The Sublime:
Coming home to a palace is really hard to beat. Sitting on a couch with a whisky and a book in a room that is a actually inside a crenellated tower is even harder to beat. You get used to it quickly, and it becomes jarring to slip downstairs to grab something for breakfast and see tourists wandering around "your home." You quickly forget you are staying in a major tourist destination. This is especially the case when the tourists go away, and you are all alone to wander the gardens and stare at the sunset over the palace as long as you want. It's just you and the peacocks. Beautiful, quiet, and fun.

In general, everything about the stay was a pleasure. And staying there meant we could take time to really admire a lot of things we would otherwise have missed. Especially in the gardens.

Shopping for food was easy in Perth (at Tesco Extra) and there's a nice Marks and Spencer in Dundee, if you happen to be driving thru.

We've been staying in vacation rentals around the word for 28 years. Some of them have been awful... Others have been great and some even perfect. A few properties have been so pleasurable and unique as to make them superlative experiences regardless of any idiosyncrasies. For us, the Balvaird Wing fits in the latter group. It's right up there at the top of our list with a select few other truly unique and amazing places that have blown our minds.

Thanks to all for the wonderful stay.

“What can one say that does justice to the idea of living in a palace.”
Reviewed 15 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

The Balvaird Apartment runs along the upper floor of the North West wing of Scone Palace and is being marketed as the ideal bridal suite or as a base for golfing or sporting holidays. With three bedrooms, each with ensuite facilities along with a lounge and dining kitchen it does make an ideal base for three couples to split the cost (£500 a night at the time we stayed). (As two of the three rooms have twin double beds it might be possible to sleep a total of ten).

My wife and I took the whole apartment as part of a sentimental journey returning to her home town to celebrate an anniversary and birthday. Whilst we fell in love with the master bedroom and its canopy, we found it had no shower (it has a large antique bath) so we utilised the second bathroom which offered a modern walk in unit. To be honest that about sums up our only complaint. If the master suite had a shower the whole apartment would be perfect.

The only other problem is that access is via a lot of stairs, both external and internal. Assistance with baggage is possible but this is not somewhere to stay if mobility is an issue.

As the services of a chef can be requested it might be worth asking where you are supposed to take any meals. The kitchen diner is too informal and there didn't appear to be enough chairs to seat six or eight in the main lounge around the circular table. I am sure there are adequate arrangements available but it would be worth checking.

Staying on the subject of food a very adequate welcome pack allowing the preparation of hot drinks and toast with preserves was provided. A breakfast pack can also be supplied but with the visitors cafe opening below at 0930 and the Lorne sausage rolls being excellent it's probably not worth the effort.

Should you need a taxi numbers are provided but we found some difficulty getting them to arrive at the right place. If you request a pick up from the Estate Office located at the rear of the Palace and to approach via the North East gate then things seem to work out better.

One other thing worth mentioning is the friendliness of the staff. Everyone we met, from the office through to the cafe were welcoming and helpful. They all made us feel part of the 'family' once they knew we'd taken the apartment. Thanks to you all for that.

All in all we loved our two nights staying in the Balvaird Apartment. To watch the public retreat and leave you to have the grounds to yourself and to look out over the beautiful views available from the lounge was a privilege and a pleasure.

Three couples sharing can make The Balvaird an affordable experience.....but who can put a price on something so special?

“Live like Royalty in the Fabulous Apartment ”

Having won a weekend away at a charity auction last year we were really excited to stay at Scone Palaces Balvaird Apartment with friends and we were not disappointed.

It has been tastefully decorated in keeping with tradition but with a modern twist. The rooms are stunning. Large and filled with beautiful paintings and antiques.

The grounds are magnificent and if the weather is nice just to get out and explore is a must.

The location is perfect with some of Scotland's finest scenery on its doorstep.

We were looked after by Anne-Sophie, Accommodation Manager from making the booking to our departure after our stay. Her service was first class so welcoming and willing to help out in any way possible. A real treasure.

We were even lucky enough to meet Lord Mansfield!!

I would recommend a visit to the Apartment without hesitation and we will definitely be back.

“Stunning Venue”
Reviewed 21 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Absolutely stunning venue. The accomodation was, as you would imagine, very regal. The apartment had EVERYTHING!!!
The only slight criticism we had was the sofas could have been more comfortable.
Would definately return

“Wow.....fabulous break in stunning location”

Three couples stayed at the apartments as part of a birthday surprise. The apartment is absolutely stunning and was immaculately clean. The pictures do not do it justice, the bedrooms are much larger and very tastefully decorated. Comfortable beds, pillows, fluffy bath robes and each having an ensuite made it perfect for the six of us. The views over the grounds and towards Perth are breath taking. Excellent welcome pack and even a bottle of fizz! Unlike other self catering accommodation the cupboards were fully stocked with tea, coffee, cereals, spices, oils etc. Waking up in the morning with peacocks outside our window was fab and having access to the grounds was great. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting an exceptional experience, we were sorry to leave and hope to return.
