Description: Perth's only Authentic Indian Restaurant. Owned and run by Praveen Kumar and his wife Swarna Kumar. Opened 2009. Both born and brought up in small rural communities in south India. At Tabla we use fresh, farm grown spices by own family in India. Praveen has gained great wealth of Food and Restaurant management skills from The Gleneagles Hotel & Turnburry Hotel, where we workedover 6 years. Tabla is well presented restaurant with stone walls and open kitchen. You'll find cheerful and well attentive staff to exceed your dining expectations.

Attended Tabla today for lunch with my daughter - and quite frankly the food and service were stupendous !!
Great value 2 course lunch which was very tasty and served by staff who was friendly and very helpful !! My daughter is in a wheelchair and he put down a ramp at the door and assisted her inside the restaurant as well !! Very attentive and always smiling and very informative re menu items and how they get authentic spices from home for use in restaurant ! Very flavoursome and fresh food that tastes incredible - will most certainly be back !! Cant wait !!

Enjoyed our dinner here with good service despite being crowded for the Saturday evening of the Easter weekend. We took advantage of our Live Active cards from Perth Leisure which gave a 10% discount. One thing we particularly liked was the naan bread which was light compared to how we have found it elsewhere. .

Dropped in for summer and had a lovely meal. I've ben to Perth several times and why I have not found this little gem before, I do not know!

Poppadoms and pickles, then an aubergine pakora were both excellent, as was the fruity and spicy chicken curry, with a naan to help it along

Washed down with some draught Kingfisher, the total came to £33 which isn't too bad, all things considered.

Service was good but not "in your face" and I felt comfortable eating here.

On Sunday 18th March 2018, travelled to Tabla in Perth from Edinburgh with a friend and some family members, four in total.

We've been trying out food in different towns and cities and went to Tabla due to a lot of good reviews. Boy, were the reviews deceiving!

On arrival at the empty restaurant at 19:30 hours, we were warmly greeted by the manager and seated at our table. Got chatting with the manager who said he was from Nepal. He was friendly and helped us choose the dishes.

We ordered some soft drinks, which were served quickly and then some starters, Papadoms, Tandoori King Prawns, Mixed Tikka Platter and the Royalla Vepudu (crispy fried king prawns). The starters were served shortly after and presented well. Papadoms were nice (hard to get wrong even if you tried). The Tandoori King Prawns seemed a little undercooked and tasted bland, the Tikka Platter tasted better but was very dry and chewy, indicating it was not fresh and the Royalla Vepudu was just about okay.

As it stood, the start was not great.

The main course followed, consisting of the Lamb Shank, Railway Boti (lamb curry on the bone), Lamb Biryani, King Prawn Bhuna, King Prawn with Spinach, side dishes of Tadka Dhal (lentil) and mixed vegetables. Accompanied by some rice and a selection of bread.

I'lll get okay dishes out the way as there weren't many. The lentil side dish and the bread, shockingly were the best of the lot. Both the Lamb Shank and Lamb Curry on the bone were just about okay.

The rest of the dishes were plain and simple bland. The concerning thing was that all the dishes alarmingly tasted the same and were drowned in the generic gravy sauce. The one and only reason behind the same taste is that our brilliant chef uses the same base gravy sauce for all the dishes.

When seafood and lamb taste the same, something must be wrong. To make the experience even better, the Lamb Biryani was the worst I have ever tasted, my fellow diners concurred. It was awful.

Sadly, we were all disappointed as our bellies were left growling, out sounding the Tabla.

The disappointment was highlighted to the polite manager, however no sorry or any gesture of goodwill was offered, that's not good customer service.

Our bill came to about £150, which was unworthy of the meal.

I am completely baffled regarding the good reviews for Tabla, either this is a one off bad day or the customers who come here haven't experienced good food.

A striking statement on the Table website is made by the owners of the establishment, Praveen Kumar and his wife Saroo. It starts off and also ends by stating ''Welcome to an authentic Indian dining experience''. Unfortunately there was nothing authentic about our dining experience to put it in a subtle manner.

A complete and utter disappointment!
