“Wonderfully quirky”

Many holiday cottages are decorated with a fear of offending, yielding bland characterless results. This cottage emphatically does not fall into this category. The decor is brave, bold and adds character to an already pretty cottage. Describing it sounds horrendous (lime green chairs and fridge freezer, oranges, browns, reds, snazzy patterns, a bath in the bedroom etc) but it works, I liked it and I love the fact they've been brave with it and it helps makes it memorable.

There are areas where the cottage could be more practical (no microwave, wifi, tumble drier, full length mirror, dressing table, drawers in the bedroom and 40% of the built in wardrobe space is unavailable for guests), but to honest i'd rather have the quirkiness than boring practicality and the cottage is priced appropriately. It's more appropriate to appreciate what it does have rather than doesn't and anyway, baths are much more fun than dressing tables in bedrooms!

We loved the big porch area inside the front door, the storage chest in the lounge, the large garden and lovely picnic table, the good sized lounge, bathroom and bedroom (although the kitchen is a little small by relation), nice flat screen TV, big comfy sofa and bed and its stunning location (really, it's a beautiful spot). We also loved that it has been newly refurbished and it has a freshness and newness throughout the property, including the amenities. We also felt the property was good value for money.

We also appreciated the nice touches with the milk, biscuits, bathroom shampoos, gels, games etc being left for us on arrival. There were some interesting choices of books available as well (50 Shades...,Katie Price./Jordan etc!)

Our only slight frustration was the hot water running out quickly mid shower on a couple of occasions. We struggled to get to grips with the seemingly unnecessary complicated programmable immersion heater system that we didn't have the time or inclination to spend time working out how to use. The instructions left (which were otherwise fine) didn't seem to match the reality (ie there appeared to be no simple on/off switch as described). But in all probability we were probably being stupid, and it didn't trouble us to the extent that we had to phone our contact.

All in all this was a lovely cottage to remember for all the right reasons and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

PS; A couple of things to note:
- Whilst it is a private enclosed garden, it is not dog-proof ie there are gaps where a dog could escape, so it needs to be on a lead/or accompanied outside in the garden.
- To access the driveway, you need to drive on the canal tow path which necessitates going through two sets of closed gates (a bit of a faff once the novelty has worn off)!
- The driveway takes one car comfortably, two cars would be a tight squeeze
- The deer head on the lounge wall is not real (as it may appear to be at first glance from the pictures)!
- Although a very quite and peaceful location, the cottage is not quite as isolated as it may appear from the pics. There are neighbours, one of which overlooks the garden.
- There has been some clear felling activity locally which does slightly detract from the view of some of the local surrounding area slightly (including parts of the mid to upper hillside opposite the cottage)
- The tow path outside the front of the property is a public footpath (something to bear in mind if you wanted to have a bath with the bedroom curtains open for the view)!

“Fabulous cozy cottage, great modern decor, extremely comfortable and warm .”

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cottage looked every bit as wonderful as it did on the website. There were nice touches like coffee, tea, shortbread for our arrival and some milk in the fridge. Also ,all toiletries etc amd plenty of towels etcc. Also, washing powder, dishwasher tablets etc in the kitchen. The lounge area was really cozy and comfy in the evenings and the sofa was too easy to melt into. There were books.magazines, boardgames if you so desire and LOADS of information and leaflets on what to do ,where there are walks etc. The area is one we love anyway and we got out and about every day for a walk in the nearby Glens. Also,i came away as an engaged woman as my partner proposed to me when we arrived. Thoroughly recommend this cottage as a romantic getaway :-)
