“Absolutely the Best Tour Bar None”
Reviewed 15 January 2012

If you are in Inverness you must absolutely, without a doubt do a tour with Inverness Day Tours. We were able to secure our tour with Hugh last minute and what a stroke of luck that turned out to be. He was an engaging storyteller with an unbelievable grasp and knowledge of highland history. We were fascinated and seven hours flew by as we learned and saw more than we thought possible. It was a magical day and we cannot recommend this company enough. A must do when you are in the highlands!

Haha, you said it was last minute, you really meant it. We didn't get your booking until 9am on the day of the tour! I can just imagine Hugh shaving, preparing the car and his weapons, leaving the house, fuelling and still getting to your B&B before 10am. Would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall of the Allison household that morning!!

I'm so glad you got your tour and must also thank Brad at Avalon Guest House for their help in making sure you were kept in the picture as we dashed to pick you up.

Thanks so much for the great review. Do all Canadians plan their trips so much in advance?

“Best tour guide!!”
Reviewed 4 January 2012

We did a one day tour with Hugh which was absolutely amazing. Hugh had so many interesting stories and kept us entertained the entire trip including while he was driving through the snow storm!! Even with the weather we were able to see lots and learned a ton.
Tony and Hugh helped us plan our trip with tips on which route to drive from Edinburgh and places to stop to see and eat for the rest of our trip. Thank you for all info and tips. If you are looking for a customized tour to all your needs and wants, these are the guys to go through. Cheers!!

Haha, that is a great review especially as you had to actually push the car out of a snowdrift at one point!

Glen Affric is a stunning place to visit in the snow. Just like a Christmas Card.

But safety is always number one and we always let each other know if we are heading into the side glens in bad weather. I'm glad you pushed him out otherwise I'd have had to come and rescue you.

Isn't the Highlands a beautiful place in winter. So sad that many don't see her in her winter coat.

Hope the memories last for many years.

“Excellent Trip, Fantastic Guide, a throughly enjoyable day !!”
Reviewed 3 January 2012

We had been to Inverness earily in the year, and decided to go back purely to visit the Cairngorm Mountains. I organised the trip with Tony, and he allocated George to be our guide.

George met as as arranged, and asked us what do we want to see, and which places etc. We left it to his discretion, and we were not disappointed. He had enormous knowledge about the whole area. What a fantastic guy he is, he was polite, and so helpful, giving us all sorts of facts and tales. It was a very special day for him personally, but he still gave 110% to us.

We were allowed plenty of time to do our own thing, and nothing was too much trouble for him. George checked that we had suitable footware etc on/with us, luckily the weather was on our side, and the snow was amazing, just how quick it laid, and it gave us a true insite to just how quickly the weather could change. Luckily George was there, not too much, just enough we thought.

He allowed us plenty of camera breaks, and joined us for lunch at a lovely little cafe, again, we were not rushed, and felt that we were treated as long time friends rather than paying customers.

I highly recommend George, and hope to visit Scotland, and him again, hopefully this year. I can honestly say that I wish all trip guides were like him.

Thank you George

Thanks for that great review.

I note that George joined you for lunch. The rest of us know he has hollow legs so I hope the restaurant bill was not too excessive!

George loves showing the Highlands to his passengers and we don't get that many who want to go into the Grampians so it makes it even more enjoyable for us, as guides, when we get the chance to do something that little bit more rare.

Glad the snow was too your liking. It is great in small doses!

“The perfect day tour - fun, educational, and I would do it all over again.”
Reviewed 4 December 2011

A group of 5 of us did the Outlander Tour with Hugh Allison. Hugh was an amazing tour guide, so knowledgable - he even had stories for us when we were going from one destination to the next, pointing out things of interest from the road. I would recommend this company, and Hugh in particular, to anyone going to the Highlands. I can't wait to go back and take another one.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the Outlander tour with Hugh. He was actually guiding Diana, herself, last year - wonder if he'll appear through the split stone in some future epistle?

Thanks for the great review.

“The perfect tour with the perfect guide!”
Reviewed 15 November 2011

George Munro guided us through some of the most spectacular scenery we had ever seen with lots of history and stories thrown in to keep us interested and laughing for two whole days. From Skye to Culloden to Brodie Castle and the Benromach distillery, we were kept busy and informed by George. He knew how to pace the tour for varying ages, stopped when we needed to, had cold drinks available in his comfortable van, dressed in his Munro kilt one day and gave us chances to walk around here and there. We were charmed by Scotland and George! When we arrived home, there on the hall table were the pictures George had taken of and for us. In two years time, we hope to come back to Scotland and learn a bit more from George. Thank you for a wonderful time in Scotland! Betty, Carl, and John Garrett and Laura Casella

You seem to have enjoyed all aspects of your tour and that is always our objective. George has a very easy manner to his guiding and we all try to gauge the type of passengers we are carrying and adapt to what we think will suit them best. Usually we have people laughing AFTER they've left the distillery, some achievement that George had you laughing before you got there!
