“A great place to stay in one of my favourite locations.”
Reviewed 23 May 2016 for a stay in April 2016

The Riverside Lodge Garden Apartment is in a really fabulous spot. We would be happy to stay there again. The semi-detached (but very quiet)accommodation is beside well-established woods through which you can stroll to the bar, restaurant, and children's facilities at the nearby Hilton hotel. Heading in the other direction, an easy walk suitable for wee legs, wheelchairs, and bicycles takes you to the extensive forests of the Rothiemurchus Estate which you either can explore off-road or on smooth paths. The garden, surrounded by woods, has a fence but not a gate. I would not recommend leaving small children and pets in the garden without supervision.

The accommodation was comfortable, modern, and cosy. Ensuite baths/showers in each room was a bonus although not all of the showers were very powerful and some of the fixtures don't feel very robust. The beds were all excellent, very comfortable. A previous guest must have let their dog sleep on two blankets which they then had folded carefully and put away again so one cool night I had to go through three before I found a clean one to put on a bed. Stewart seemed genuinely dismayed when I told him about it and I do believe he had no idea someone had used it for a pet and quietly replaced it in the wardrobe rather than wash it.The owners, Stewart and Lizzie, live in the other part of the property and are very pleasant and helpful.

The open plan kitchen-diner-living room suited us well.Tue Wi-Fi worked and the full Sky package kept tired adventurers entertained after a day in the hills. Some of the kitchenware has seen better days but that's not unusual for self-catering facilities. Most importantly, the kitchen and wee fridge was clean. The storage in the kitchen is very limited so don't go ordering food for five for a week! Sainsbury's deliver an extensive range of items from Inverness and there are a couple of medium-sized supermarkets in Aviemore, along with delicatessens, a bookshop, and outdoor equipment shops, and a few nice eateries to try, including a really good Italian restaurant which kept this family of vegetarians very happy.

Management Response
26 May 2016
Dear Ruth,

We are delighted that you and your family enjoyed your stay at the Riverside Lodge Garden Apartment and thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on your stay. We try hard to ensure that everything is perfect for our guests holiday, however we were indeed caught out by the blankets being put away after use by a guests dog - we will be more vigilant! The property lies at the end of a very quiet lane, so the garden is normally quite safe - except for determined escapee dogs! We have however instructed our joiner to put up some gates, which can be closed to completely secure the garden if required.

Hope to see you again and best wishes.

Stewart & Lizzie

“Perfect base in the heart of the Cairngorms”
Reviewed 14 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Everything positive said by previous reviewers is so true. This is a modern, warm, very convenient and really well situated accommodation that we would love to return to. Fantastic walking in Rothiemurchus Estate, snow-sports and restaurants are all so easily accessed. Hosts Stewart and Lizzie could not have been more helpful and friendly. It will definitely be our first choice for Aviemore trips in the future - hope it's available!

“Excellent holiday rental”
Reviewed 4 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

We had a short break here recently. Very well equipped and good space. Great place for walks and reaching ski resort and not too far from Aviemore . The owners let our 3 Labradors stay as well and it was ideal for them. Although it is advertised as an apartment and attached to main house it is really very private with separate driveway and garden. in a beautiful peaceful setting with great walks on the doorstep. It was just what we needed. Good wifi

“Cosy, comfortable and convenient”

My wife, baby, 4 year old, and I had a great four nights in the Riverside Lodge. The fit-out and furnishings are very high quality and the rooms are very spacious. Each of the three bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom with shower etc.

The location is great too; close to both town and the ski centre, plus surrounded by starting points for lovely walks of all lengths and challenge. And the walk to the Hilton (where you can do various activities, and which we found to have a better pool than the MacDonald) is just 5 minutes through the woods.

Without a doubt this is the nicest, most convenient and best value self-catering accommodation we have stayed at in Scotland. And the owners are very helpful and welcoming too!

“Another wonderful visit!”

This was our second early January visit to Riverside Lodge and honestly can't recommend it highly enough. Not only is the location perfect for walking into the centre of Aviemore (so no need for the short straw draw for who isn't drinking in order to drive home....) but the lodge is beautifully decorated, so comfortable, warm and inviting that you can't help but relax.
The added bonus is that our dog can join us, one of the few places in Aviemore that allow this.
