You get what you would expect from this well maintained, well staffed Hilton who are very attentive. While I'm here on a family trip it's definitely more business oriented with it's quick access from the motorway.
As an honors member the wifi is complimentary and fast. The pillows are gentle to the face and the beds are of the right firmness. The food is good and well prepared and the bar well stocked with a pool table.
A couple of strange things standout.
Glasgow Central Rail Station is a quick 10 minus walk away, same with the, every 10 min 24/7, Glasgow airport shuttle. However, for some reason when you walk to the hotel you arrive at the unattractive back of it a need to walk around on a dingy, unappealing, back-alleyish path. Why would you build the attractive front facing away from the city, no one is looking at this when they're in the car. At the same time walking around to the entrance you're not sure if you will bump into a couple winos and their Bucky.
The other thing that we found more amusing than annoying was related to the pool, so if you're not going to use it don't worry.
First, although advertised to close at 10 pm, you get asked to leave at 9:40 pm. Now, I don't know if this comes from the attendant wanting to get out at 10 pm, perhaps he doesn't get paid after that time, but if you're going to close the pool at 9:40 pm, then advertise that the pool closes at 9:40 pm. Don't tease us with the potential of a last 20 min dip before bedtime at 10 pm.
Second has to be an incorrect interpretation of pool safety rules. I've been in many hotels, in many countries globally, many Hiltons, even many times in Scotland and until this Hilton I have never been forced to actually be physically in the swimming pool while my kid is in the pool. Sitting by the pool yes, I understand this rule, even when my 12 year old son is a much stronger swimmer than I am. I would actually hazard a guess that if I saw a child drowning on the other side of the pool I could get there quicker from being on the side of the pool, diving across or moving around the pool, rather than trying to move through chest-high pool water, walking or swimming. However, seemingly sitting at the steps with one's feet in the pool achieves the level of safety required; baffling to me.
Anyway, all said and done, this is a very good hotel, especially for the business traveler, in a good location and at the level one would expect from this type of Hilton.
