We stayed in a double bedded room for three nights over the bank holiday. Our pre requisite for any hotel stays now is peace and quiet in the room for a good nights rest. I could hear a pin drop in room 318!

The room was clean and kept that way throughout our stay thanks to the discreet housekeeping team.

Front reception were courteous ans polite. I prefer more engagement, but on this busy stay it did not negatively impact our time.

Would definitely return!

Room tip: Ask for quiet room if needed

Stayed 3 nights over bank holiday weekend for the football. Hotel is in an excellent location, breakfast was nice, staff were excellent and public areas were spotlessly clean... there was even a lady hoovering the main foyer at 11pm when we arrived!

The bar shuts early for residents, we tried to get a drink at 11.30 on the Friday night to be told the bar had shut and on Saturday it was closed and empty by around 10.30pm but this may have been due to staff shortages. We eventually got a table in the cocktail bar on Sunday afternoon and the drinks and service were excellent!

The only very slight complaint was that our room on the 5th floor was a little musty and airless. I guess that's down to the age of the building rather than how clean it's kept.

Would definitely stay here again

Stayed here with my Daughter on Friday and Saturday night. Breakfast was very average and the porridge was the worst we have ever had. Someone needs to be taught how to make porridge, it was so thick, made with water and seemed to have powdered milk mixed through it. On Saturday evening after a meal out we arrived back at the hotel at 10.30 to be informed that the Champagne bar was closed due to some staff members having covid symptoms, so our last night ended up being an early night for us. I have stayed at the Voco George Hotel in Edinburgh quite recently and unfortunately the Grand Central isn't a patch on the George. So Edinburgh it will be for me next time! The Grand was a bit disappointing but that's maybe because I stayed at The George and expected the same standards.

Where do you start with this? We visited the hotel on Saturday evening for a few drinks before and after dinner. The service was slow with poorly trained staff. When we returned after dinner at around 10pm, the doormen attempted to refuse us entry and said it was "too busy". When we showed a booking confirmation they allowed us in and when we entered the bar area it was far from busy. They clearly lied to us for reasons only they can explain. It was half full at best. We ordered one round of drinks and were then informed by staff that the bar was closing early due to short staff which didn't seem to accurately reflect what we could see. We finished our drinks and left. What a complete shambles from one of the more expensive bars in town. They really know how to ruin a good evening. I would strongly recommend you try elsewhere.

We were staying at this hotel for 3 nights and had several bags but you cannot drive anywhere near the front door even to drop off anything. The nearest you can get your car is an NCP car park and then walk 10 minutes through the Central station to the hotel. Thankfully the hotel will endorse your parking ticket to give you 50% off exorbitant NCP charges. The hotel is tired and in the process of being refurbished. There was only one person on Reception and always a queue of folk waiting to be attended to. The room was OK but the carpet was sticky from use by previous occupants. There were no drawers to store clothes, only a small wardrobe in a very large room! Breakfast was a nightmare. One day it was self-service, the next waiter service only. There were not enough staff, there were queues to get tables and they even used high tables with stools in the cocktail bar to seat people. It was a complete shambles each day for the 3 days were there. Our bedroom was not made up one day despite requests and finally we went to reception to get clean towels. Other family members had the same experience. There as one redeeming feature, a receptionist called Sharon/Shannon ?? who was very helpful. However we will not be staying here again and would recommend it is best avoided.
